[Melbourne/VIC NH members] Best service/mechanic shop you kn

Postby wykd636 on Sun, 14 Apr 2013 12:51 +0000

Hey guys,

Looking at getting the 100k service done on my '06 D4D hilux and was just seeing if anyone had any preferred/trusted mechanics they know of around Melbourne (preferably south/east suburbs)

I've previously been to Outback 4WD but after doing a quick service myself I found 8.5+ litres of oil in my car (when it's meant to be 6.9L inc. filter) which really pissed me off considering the amount of damage it can cause. And when I dropped it off I asked them not to replace/put anything new in without asking me as I was going to buy a K&N air filter etc.. But when I picked it up they had flogged me a no-name air filter, window wipers and charged me about 50 dollars in special "window wash fluid" .
Also asked them to take my car for a drive and listen to a certain noise, and KM's hadn't changed yet they said "yep took it for a drive and it sounds great"

So as much as this thread has turned into a vent.. Haha, where do you guys recommend?

I'm all about establishing rapport with a mechanic and sending all my friends there if they do a good job. Pity it couldn't happen with Outback 4wd in bayswater..

Ah that's interesting about outback.

My capped price servicing has ended as I now am up to 60,000km and I was thinking about where else to go too. I have been using nunawading Toyota for my services and been happy.

Outback was all that popped to mind.

What does a standard 60km service generally cost?

Thanks Mitch

Ill look after any members from here, Ultimate Gas Conversions in Carrum Downs, got all the equipment and experience needed to do anything and reasonably priced too. Honest and take pride in our work as I am very passionate about cars and working on them and despise dodgy rip off mechanics that give the rest of us a bad name. There might be a few on here that can vouch for our service.

Is there a big benefit other than price from going to a mechanic other than the dealership?
I'm assuming one point is the dealerships don't like any extra mods, right?
Cheers,
Jay

I've heard nothing but problems with dealership mechanics.
Ranging from crap service/runarounds, to forgetting to put oil back in the engine. Plus they charge a fortune for original parts.

I personally like to establish rapport with a mechanic so they are honest, and don't rip me off :) and in turn they get all my money that I spend on my car upgrading it haha, and my friends cars etc.

AUS4wd in bayswater did a great job last time. And unlike outback4wd, actually called me when my car was ready to be picked up.

Good point. I've got my car with a novated lease, so all my servicing was packaged. But after getting my report back and seeing the expenses Toyota charged, i'm shocked. $31 for a parker globe? And a bunch of other random expenses.

It's all budgeted, but if they keep adding prices like that, i'm going to end up with much higher repayments by the end of it.
I think you've got the right idea, now I just need to find a decent mechanic in the Northern suburbs.

Do you think it effects resale at all though? My car hadn't missed a service from the same Toyota dealership when I got it, so my original thinking was to keep following through with that mindset. I suppose if you've got all it all logged it wouldn't make a difference.
Cheers,
Jay

If you're around Glen Waverley, Waverley service centre is very professional and won't rip you off. I worked there for over 5 years and I still recommend them to everyone. They do muscle cars, imports, 4x4s and the general stuff too. Ask for Con
