I had one....along with snorkel,Exhaust, chip and LPG injection. With stock filter vs K&N i got 50km extra per tank of Vortex with the K&N in. Power wise couldn't notice much but with the chip exhaust and LPG on the extra power if any would be very hard to notice- never got around to stock vs k&n on the dyno, wish I had before the beast went to Hilux heaven....or hell depending on how u view the things. Other driver should go straight to hell though [POUTING FACE]
Next customer I install one for though ill be sure to do a dyno comparison....I'm interested to see now

Maintained properly with the right amount of oil I've never seen a single particle on the inside of a well looked after K&N. I've used on every vehicle I've owned. If in mega dust just spin snorkel around 180 deg, or use paper filter offroad and kn once back in the burbs. They do make a worthwhile difference to economy, and honestly some minute fine dust particles will be burnt during combustion if they happen to make it into the engine. K&N and Unifilter been around a long time and have very good rep for good reason.

hey guys, looking at getting a K&N filter soon. I haven't got a snorkel yet tho... is it still worth me getting one now or wait? Also, how often do you oil the filter and how much? I'm guessing the oil is sold separately?
cheers, Sumpa

In my opinion it's worth getting 1 to save the dollars on when it gets serviced as well as cleaning it where ever and when ever you need to. The service kit is about $20 and it contains a cleaning fluid and the filter oil. Repco and autobarn seen to do deals on the kits a fair bit.
With or without a snorkel it is worth it

filters usually come pre-oiled and should be checked/cleaned at every service interval (or earlier if on dusty roads)

iirc, cleaning can be done with metho. but use the proper oil. how much depends on filter, but the idea is to have it dripping wet

I've got a K&N in the V6 and swear by it!!
Noticeable difference in performance and with the Stainless snork makes a wicked intake sound
I clean and re oil it every service and clean the MAF.
Usually put the paper filter back in if going wheeling for a couple days.

i just got one from autobarn it was $90, noticed it sound different as soon as i put it in. i have a snorkel, chip and exhaust. the amount of shit thats probably in your intake already ( carbon / oil .... ) a little bit of dust couldnt hurt if it did get in there and like toyboata said it would get burnt anyway.

when you oil it you just oil the outside of the filter untill it turns pink, thats what k&n say to do.

I have used k&n filters on heaps of things nd they are better in dusty conditions than paper filters imho never had Dust in intake as long as they are oiled correctly
