D4D how many km's?

Discussion on servicing, engine oils, gearbox oils, diff oils etc

Postby coheed on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 8:18 +0000

My mate is looking at a diesel hilux at the moment with 100,000km's on the clock and he was asking me how long are these motors good for if serviced properly? I thought at least 300,000? What's everyone's opinion on this?

Cheers

At least
Probably 500 000 if it's looked after.

True, I went with my mate this morning to have a look at a few, one was an automatic SR D4D with 110,000km's on it, drove nice. I looked at the service records and it was serviced every 10,000km's which has me a little worried as I'd be doing a turbo diesel every 5000km's. Would this impact on engine life?

10K is fine... although I usually drop the oil every 5K and just leave the filter on...

Probably gets more abuse depending on the type of work, city vrs contry vrs dusty 4x4 etc etc

Toyota recommend every 10K in the book and more regular under harder conditions.

My lux has got 135000 km's and its great.
Toyota reckons a service every 10000km's but change the oil after 5000kms.

I've been told by a couple of mechanics to change oil every 5000 km to be on the safe side, so I plan to get oil and filter from Toyota dealer and do intermediate change between scheduled services. A well serviced diesel should get 350,000 plus. (my lux has done 15,000 km in 4 months since new and hasn't missed a beat). It'll be interesting to see what the life span of the electro-mechanical components will be (injectors etc..).
