Bleed 2012 hilux cooling system

Postby gordeauxt on Sun, 25 Nov 2012 9:24 +0000

Hi, new to forum. Have to replace the PLASTIC?? radiator in a new 2012 hilux. Replacing the radiator all seems pretty straight forward but how do I correctly bleed the system? There is no radiator cap. Very disappointed on the lack of under car protection for the radiator, it appears to have a no protection at all, and that piece of foam, WTF?? Thanks in advance. Gordeauxt

Run the car with the heaters on flat out until the bottom hose gets hot. Thats what we do at work.

My 09 has a 3/8 square bleeder on the top of the radiator. Id fill the bottle till coolant ran from that, then run the engine till warm and recheck.

After unscrewing / removing that 3/8 bleeder, you top up coolant and the level will drop in 1-2 minutes, then add more coolant and so on. After the level no longer drops, top up the reservoir. If more than 8 L have been added, that's done. Drive the truck and check the level again 1-2 days later and top up. There is no need to bleed like some European cars which you need to let the air out from valves along with coolant lines.
