If you apply oil to the seal on the filter in liberal quantity - it does not tend to lock onto the sealing face. Skimp on the oil and you will be using a tool to get it off....... PS if the air filter comes off the valve - push it back on :D

Well I managed to get it off last night
The strap tool I had was only metal so it keeps slipping I ended up cutting some of the rubber edge stuff you slip over sharp edges around the strap got it to bite but was still to tight
I then found a bar and slid it down through the engine bay and levered the tool to get it to move
After it cracked I thought I was set turned out I had to do this bout 5 times before it came off far enough to remove by hand
All the filler bolts below for the gearbox, diff and transfer case I had to use a cordless impact gun to remove because a breaker bar wouldn't budge the bolts
At least I know from now on I will be able to undo them all properly
And purchased an fumoto valve for the next time I drop the engine oil lol

Where do you get the claw type ones. I have a second battery and secondary fuel filter and get barely get my hand in to the filter let alone one of those wrench tools.
Thanks

I'm continually amazed at engine designers/engineers who even in this day and age insist on designing things with no concept of how they will be actually used or maintained in the real world. I experienced it with boat and engine installations and today with the Hilux filter on the 2K diesel.....zero manuevering room to get any kind of tool in there to loosen the filter.....I can barely get my hands in there to grab the filter let alone a wrench. Unbelievable.
