Water Pump/Gearbox Leak & Rear Drum Brake Replacement

Postby Anth D on Fri, 05 Oct 2012 12:58 +0000

G'day fellas,

Just had the 100,000km service done at the dealer, the following issues were noted:

- Water pump is leaking = $750

- Gear box is leaking at sandwich plate and gear stick seal = $940

- Rear brake shoes, cylinder and drums need replacing = $1450

Some of this prices are bordering on ridiculous.

I have a Premium Mechanical Plan which covers me until 175,000kms, but these issues sh*t me. Leaks appear minor, but still a concern.

What are my chances on getting this done under warranty?

Any feedback on anyone whose had similar issues and had outcomes would be appreciated.

Suck it up.......water pump is a normal HiLux issue, if you open the motor/box, get a new clutch IMO

I've got a 2008 SR5 Deisel.

both front drive shafts 180,and 200km

Water pump - Toyota told me at 80,000, wauted until 180,000 and got away with it.

Had a few out of warranty jobs done but felt that they were actually very expensive compared to going to my local mechanic and just paying his price. Interestingly, every job done at toyota, needs to go back for 3 other jobs. This never happens at local mechanic!

Bit of an update fellas:

- Water pump is leaking = Replaced at no charge.

- Gear box is leaking at sandwich plate and gear stick seal = Fixed at no charge

- Rear brake shoes, cylinder and drums need replacing = Fixed at no charge (with exception of shoes which is acceptable as it's a wear and tear item).

Timing/fan belt premature replacement will be done at cost.

Castle Hill Toyota, absolutely fantastic.

You guys are getting raped for the water pumps, I just bought genuine water pump and coolant for $180 trade price of course. Pays to shop around as most toyota dealerships seem to charge different prices. dearest wast $350 for just parts. Fitting is costing me $100 cause i'm too lazy to do it myself.
I couldn't repair my brakes, so I made my horn louder.
