Mixing Morey's oil Additive with Gearbox oil

Postby mylesy on Tue, 27 Dec 2011 2:46 +0000

Hey guys, tried a search and couldn't pull anything up...

I just serviced the ute and did both diffs and gearbox. I had got onto the 'redline' product for my gearbox oil but I didn't check how much I needed before I went and got it. I asked old mate at my local auto spares and he said 2L would be enough, as always in a 4WD, I got home and found that it takes 2.5L and he's now closed :x

Just a quick question if anyone has ever used Moreys Heavy duty oil stabilizer in their gearbox before, it says it can be used in the gearbox on the bottle, just wondering if anyone else has and if they noticed a difference, I've just got some lying around home that i can quickly top up now...

Thanks

Yep, used it in my 1978 Celica. Made the viscosity way too thick and ground the gears when I tried to change. Drained it then put the right oil back in.

I mixed it at the required rate and used it in my Nissan 720 diffs, gearbox and transfer without issues.
It actually quietened the gearbox and diffs.
Ran it for years and all went well.
Haven't bothered in the hilux so far.

Ive run it in diffs transfer and engine no troubles, gear box in the lux didnt like it. Seemed like it didnt like the viscocity being so thick and heated up. I would top it with engine oil. Holden rodeos from mem run the same oil in gearbox as engine. Our trannies at work run engine oil.

If its auto i wouldnt manual should be fine.

Also if your using moreys in your engine, try a service without and check the difference in your fuel consumption 8-) It is great stuff to run in an engine but i dropped 1.5l per 100km when i stopped using it.

Yeah mate I've ran it in my 06lux for a fair while . It does make em notchy to change ( especially when cold ) . As far as an additive it's a good thing , we run it in a heap of Ag and mining gear with good operating temperature reductions. As a previous post said the lux's dont like it much but i'm always running long trips so the box warms up and comes good.

How did you find redline oil?
I'm thinking of putting in mt90 in my next service (100k)
Apparently the shockproof wears out syncros, anyone heard that before?
And that's why I'm going the mt90.
Cheers
