Timing belt change

Postby cairnzy_j on Mon, 20 Sep 2010 7:04 +0000

Hey guys

Well my 06 D4D has hit 150km, so due for a timing belt change. As I do all my servicing myself it's likely that I'll do this job as well, as well as most things on the 150,000km servicing list.

I was wondering if anyone has done their own timing belt change on the new hilux yet...and if there is a link somewhere to a instructional thread?

Any tips or key things to look out for?

I figure I might as well change the water pump while I'm in there as well. Most people would have this done I imagine?

The last on I did was on a V6 Pajero...what a pokey bloody engine to change to timing belt on! The hilux looks much simpler and easier.

Thanks in advance.

Cairnzy ;)

I have replaced my water pump and part of the process is to remove timing belt cover, tensioner, belt and idler, so it that respect is it fairly easy to do i just followed this viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5795&p=77490&hilit=Waterpump#p77490, only problems i had was removed and fitting the standard fan belt because its a spring loader tensioner (pain in the ass), only tip i would give you is to check the water pump and maybe even repace because you dont want to have to remove it all again, and to go genuine with the water pump. I had to remove my radatior and move the AC radaitor because i used an electric rattle gun on the main Timing pulley, would be easier if you had an air powered rattle gun

Cheers Wade. Very helpful. Yes have air rattle gun and air rachet. I reckon I'll replace the water pump just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the link!
