My 2nd grinds too. Toyota replaced the gear, sleeve, synchro, and gear stick. no if's or but's. Apparently the stick is a common problem an they have an up graded version. Really nice to drive now!!

Hope this helps, Peter

Mine is infected too. May 2005 sr d/c model. I had a mate in the back seat who noticed a small shudder that was felt through the floor under heavy load, towing trailer. And I live semi rural, long corrugated dirt road too. Hope this is what's causing it.

If my Bonnet latch hasn't been done, can I still get it fixed?

Oh and has any1 had any success getting the noisy injector pump when cold fixed? I'm obviously out of warranty and I'm the second owner. Only 60,000kms though.
Cheers....... Cory

Mine grinds too. Would like to no more on the "stick". If it really is an upgraded part and wud fix the slight grind. And the likelihood of getting Toyota to fix it... For free of corse ;)

Your warranty card needs to have your info on it so Toyota know where to send the letter. And thats even if you out of warranty or not the original owner. You can ring Toyota's info line and update the warranty card with your details.

Just rang my local dealer and it appears they are going to add a reinforcing bracket, if however they notice any cracking then the cross member will need attention as well

Rang my local dealer (castle hill NSW).

Got told "Letters will be going out to affected owners on the 17th Sept. Details on what to do will be enclosed. Thanks for calling."

I've noticed a bit of shuddering on take off from the lights... I guess that might be it??

Mine's part of the recall too (09 SR5 diesel dual cab 4WD). It's due for its 40K km service, but if the stealers aren't even posting letters till the 17/9 I s'pose that'll be ANOTHER day off the road.

wtf is up with Toyota these days???

funny you say that,i called the dealer today, got my 1000kay check over and asked them to do the recall and he said they couldnt yet because he didnt have enough info yet, also asked if i had a bullbar, said that was another part of the recall, sorry i didnt pay to much attention,so i cant ellaborate on that. They are checking out my 2nd gear crunching as well, booked in on tuesday so will let everyone know how i go.the second gear crunching was on my 07 hilux as well but i got used to it after a while, seems worse when the car is cold.|
cheers burty.

Not Sure if mine is affected yet, as it is April 10. How ever, i noticed it shutters under load and clutch slipping when towing boat. I took it in to get it check and they said its the clutch. they orderd the clutch and i left it there for a day. they then told me they didnt do it cause they had the wrong parts?????? Dont know how they can stuff that up. Its a bit wierd if you ask me. My Lux has only done 7500kms!!

To add further. My ABS light keeps coming on when under load too. has this anything to do with it??

Bugger mines affected as well, I wonder if they will track me down as i am the second owner?

Yes, the VIN search indicates your vehicle is covered by this recall.

You should soon receive a letter from Toyota Australia advising you what to do. In the meantime, you can continue to drive your vehicle.

If you have any questions, please contact your nearest Toyota Dealer or call Toyota on 1800 252 097.

Yes. My 2005 model just had the Bonnet and Bullbar lights recall done two days ago, and of course it's affected by this latest recall. I'm a bit surprised and disappointed it wasn't done earlier, since I bought my ute from a Toyota dealer recently.

Vi, I first questioned the gears at the first service and they fobed me off saying it would settle down. The car got the 10000 service at toyota without any mention of the problem. i did not like the cost of their service so never went back to toyota again, getting it serviced at an independant service centre. At 85000 the problem had become very bad. i took it back then and they fixed it without question or fuss. Graeme Werner Toyota in Ferntree Gully Vic. if this helps you.

Cheers, Peter

Cory, The toyota service tech pointed out to me about the ware in the rubber bush in the stick when he was testing the 2nd gear change. he said that this may be contributing to the poor changing. Some how I doubt this because they had no hesitation in replacing 2nd gear. The new stick has a lot less wobble and play than the old one - more like new, although i had barely noticed the deteriation of the old unit. I believe the grinding is a weak point in the g/box and needs to be treated with care. get it fixed and look after it. They did say that the stick would not fail again, but did not say that 2nd gear would not fail again!! so I treat it very gently.
Cheers, Peter

Yep got the bug, not happy.
Why are the dealers so sh!t?
Why should it be a stressful experience simply taking your car to people who are supposed to be professionals?
You can't trust the bastards to do a proper job so now will have that nagging thought in the back of your mind that the car might sh!t it's self at any time, most likely when you are up the back of bum hole nowhere.
Put through the wringer again damn it, would not be a problem if I wasn't in love...
Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

After this recall I think I will never buy another Toyota!

They should make them stronger and blah blah blah....

Hell I've just had a thought....I'm never going to buy another man made thing again....it seems nobody can make anything good.

Seriously everyone is bitching and carrying on like there is no tomorrow, have a look through history of the automobile...most makes and models get a recall.

Have a look at this web site and peruse through the different makes!

http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index ... mId/952839

Maybe the people who are complaining should buy another make and then see how good Toyota's are.

Why is everyone getting so negative and defensive about a recall?

And another thing why do some people hate dealers so much.
