I have just had my clutch replaced and Toyota will not cover it under warranty.
We we on some wet roads in Western Queensland and the sand and dirt has got into the clutch.
They claim that because there was foreign material in it they will not cover it for warranty.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
I don't actually beleive that you can have a hilux that can't be driven along wet dirt roads. In case you get dirt in the clutch.
It's only 15 months old and had done bugger all off the tar previously.

If anyone has any ideas about this please let me know.

oh yeah id believe it. my toyota dudes have told me not to get the clutch wet. these are the same toyota mechanics who say the only good thing about the new lux is the overtime they get fixin them all the time. its a friggin joke.

mate i reckon you need to be a bit more upfront with your tojo dealer.
there has been clutch issues since the new model inception.
if foreign material has got into the clutch then its probably there problem for leaving somewhere for it to get in by design.
i'm fully awhere they sorta have you over a barrel when they give you the bill but this hilux may not be the only vehicle you might choose to buy from them.
make them aware of this.
i dont care how big they think they are.
they rely on the buyers dollars.
and make them aware of where you are getting your imformation from.

Moving to warranty/recalls section.

I'd tell them to pull it out as your not paying and go and get a good h/d aftermarket clutch. If you have gotta pay for it, you might as well put a good one in.

Whats your approach R3X? Did you have to fly off the handle or were they ok with it?

Ive had my brand new hilux since august 2009 and its about to get its 2ND CLUTCH!! Not only that but ive had 2 of my good mates get clutches replaced in their '08 and '10 model hiluxes... time for this to be sorted properly!! Doesnt matter what sort of driving you do, a descent clutch should last a lot longer than the toyo crap they been putting in em.

The Hilux clutches are well know for failing We have found the aftermarket varieties are a lot better than standard and last a lot longer. Have a read of this thread on the 4terrain clutch we offer. It's a fantastic HD clutch which has an original pedal feel.

Had my hilux since new August 09 and still on the original clutch(32000km). Tow a 1000kg trailer almost every day, slipped a few times only when reversing trailer onto building site. Soon as the stock one goes i'll definitely be going aftermarket.

Toyota today replaced my 08 SR5 clutch with the Toyota flywheel and clutch kit upgrade. My ute is 12 Months out of warranty but only done 26,000 kms and like new with no off road or towing other than launching 12 foot tinny four times.
They agreed to pay for all parts ($1800 ) and I paid $420 labour.
Local dealer who sold me the ute put in submission to Toyota and I am more than happy with their effort in trying to look after me .
Better than nothing as they legally could have told me to go away but still very dissapointing it needed a new clutch at all !

I have an 06 with 320,000km's on the original clutch, no BS.

But it has shuddered and carried on from day one, absolutely crap clutch from brand new.

It's pretty much rooted now, and the gear box will drop out of fifth gear when you decelerate occasionally as well.

This old girl has had a real hard life in the mines, but doesn't use a drop of oil or coolant.

If I do do the clutch, I'll go one of these 4 terrain aftermarkets for sure, and make sure I physically see a machined flywheel going in myself.

Please remember that if you don't machine the flywheel you haven't fixed anything.

Anyone know what to do about a tired gearbox??

Just had my 2011 hilux clutch done free of charge under warranty, only done 10k miles. Was slipping as it reached 2k rpm in 4th gear....... Wet and dirt in it sounds a load of cack if you ask me.

Ive just had my clutch replaced on my 2010 hilux with only 2 months left of warranty and at 70000 ks all under warranty due to excessive shuddering

Had my '09 replaced under warranty 40,000klms in and should have been smarter and gotten a HD put in place of it. 95,000klms now and it's on the way out again. Definitely go HD and don't bother with a toyo crap clutch.

My 05 SR5 clutch makes a metal pinging noise when i release and engage the clutch.

I got my truck going into a shop for warranty to replace the aircon compressor because it is seized. Do you think i could get them to throw in a new clutch aswell? The clutch SLIGHTLY shudders when taking off in first gear and it burns itself out when reversing up a driveway and hills. I assume its mostly due to 33" tires but I have been looking at replacing the clutch soon anyway.

Same prob on 09 SR5. Clutch bearing fixed/replaced 35K and 75K under warranty no probs from 2 different dealerships due to work commitments. Leading up to 100K service noticed the high pitched sound again with the shudder in first, told toyota to have a look during service and told them history of the fault. Alas mech called me and there is no record of having bearings fixed. Eventhough he thinks it is an aftermarket part in the car????? Long story short clutch needs replacing out of warranty, So sorry toyota, I am going for a HD one from somewhere else.

I have a 2010 with 23000 on the clock and when the car is first started in the morning I have a bearing noise with the clutch pedal out push the pedal in the noise goes away. Toyota have changed the thrust bearing once but the noise is still there. They are now claiming it is normal. When the car has run for a couple of minutes the noise goes away.
Does anyone esle have this type of noise?

Mechanic reckons throw out bearing and I agree. Sounds like you're being fobbed off mate

i go mine done a few times under warranty, flying off the handle is one way, but my clutch died under 1000, 10 000, at the 15 000, i replaced the clutch myself, being a mechanic, sent the bill to Toyota via small claims court and the service manager got the sack for not picking up that the flywheel wasn't flat. it was "V" shaped, so the clutch was only applying pressure to the outer half of the friction plate.
i got the flywheel machined
replaced the with Tuff clutch
replaced spigot, throw out bearing
rear main seal

im up to 150 000 on the Tuff clutch, thats with no ratio change, 33", and towing a car trailer to and from darwin, will probably change it while im doin my t case
