Hilux Seat Assembly Cracked

Postby darmo on Wed, 05 May 2010 8:57 +0000

Hi there,

just thought i'd put this one up. I noticed the other day that when i hopped into my truck that the seat was making a weird clicking noise. When i sat in it i noticed that it had a bit of free play that it never had before. So last weekend i pulled the seat out and found the seat assembly had broken clean off. Here are some photos i took with my phone.

I rang Toyota today to see f there has been a recall and their response was no. I asked if they had heard of the issue before and according to their computer records they have only sold 2 seat assembly's in the past year.

Its crazy cos i don't think I'm a fat fella at 91kg and i don't high jump into the truck every time i get in. So its got me buggered how it happened. Anyways now I'm thinking do i buy a new seat assembly at $200 odd dollars or just put a few tack welds in?

Cheers, Darmo.

Hi Darmo,
If its any help to you, I have a SR5 drivers seat in my garage from my ute. (Changed it to a recaro). It has the full assembly with it. I dont know where you live but I am in Wollongong and if your nearby your welcome to the whole seat for a carton of Coronas.

The passenger seat of my '08 SR5 has a lot of free movement & knocks when going over bumps. I've been looking trying to figure out why it's moving so much, now I might have to look a bit further.
Thanks Darmo

Hi Onall4 and Ultimate.

Yeah its pretty easy to remove the seat. Its basicly just 2 14mm bolts at the front seat rails and then another 2 at the rear. Just be careful putting it up as there is a wire loom connecting the seat belt sensor for both the drivers side and passengers.

Please let me know what you's find. As Toyota havent got a recall on this yet. And i'd rather get a proper replacment then just putting in a few tack welds.

Cheers,

Darmo

Let you know what happens Darmo. One way or the other, it'll be going back to the Dealer.

Hi Seanr72,

Yeah that's what I'm thinking of doing. While i got my mate with all the gear working on the tray i may as well get him to put a few tack weld on it.

Finally took mine back to the dealer, they said it is a 'faulty' seat base. They have ordered a new one in under warranty.

Epic grave dig...

Ok, so after a bit of digging, looks like I have the same problem as you 5 years on. Both of my front seats have cracked in the same spot. I'm guessing Toyota will tell me to go stick it because the ute is well and truly out of the warranty period? Has anyone else just welded theirs together?
