Suspension lift effect on warranty

Mods

I wasn't sure on whether to put this in the suspension folder or in here.

Has anyone who has installed a lift kit had any issues with warranty being affected at all?

Cheers

Dermie

I am not aware of any but it is like any modification that a Toyota dealer didn't fit, you have given them an oportunity to blame a third party for any upcoming issues that may arise which could put the onus back on you to prove that they did not contribute to the fault.

Dermie,

dealers are dogs when it comes to warranties.....my last 03 hilux I blew the rear diff after 15,000kms.....they tried to blame the suspension lift I had fitted on it (Tough Dog 2") and said it was too stiff which may have affected the drivetrain plus the "BIG" 31" tyres put too much load on the diff.

a few phone calls later and that dealer was eating his own words

Just been knocked back on warranty for a leaking steering box because of the suspension lift (2.5 - 3"). Will be taking it further.

They must prove that the modification has caused the issue otherwise they can not legally void the warranty, it's against anti-competition laws set out by the ACCC and most who even suggest voiding warranty due to such mods should back off once you mention to them that they are in breach of these laws and should talk with your solicitor if they think otherwise

Have had the steering rack replaced under warranty. Local dealer wasn't helpful at all, but when they sent the paperwork off to Toyota the claim was approved. I think they just wanted to see if I would cop it on the chin and pay for the repairs myself. As soon as I got angry and asked then to explain how my suspension could take the steering rack past its normal working range they backed down.

I'll put the photos of the movement range in my shed.

After speaking to the department of fair trading and the motor traders association about this both told me it's not who is right that wins, it's the better clerk. Keep everything. If a company claims a mod won't affect new car warranty, ask for in writting (watch them duck that request!!).

 I lifted my Hilux SR5 2008 3" with coil spacers i bought of EBay for about $400 (BARGAIN) fitted bigger 32" tyres. I've had no trouble with warranty and I've made insurance claims, however a dealership on gold coast tried to tell my mate with a 2007 sr that because his tyres needed air and he was towing a heavy trailer his CLUTCH was not covered. WTF. he bought car 3 weeks earlier.
