Mine has been replaced twice already in the last 6 months and has now in the last week been flicking on and off again. The first time it was passed with warranty, the next we had to pay for it. I'm not prepared to pay for it a third time. Its a 2006 SR5 with 79000 and I baby it (lady driver)

...recieved this email from Toyota today after my light came on last month and my dealer identified the problem being the clock spring;

In relation to the clock spring, we can advise this was a customer service exercise and as a goodwill gesture, Toyota has offered a further 4 year warranty on this component. The Toyota guidelines for this customer service exercise is 7 years or 200,000km, whichever occurs first.

Thank you for contacting Toyota and allowing us the opportunity to respond.

Kind regards

...so, this was on an '05 SR5 with 125k on it...7yrs and 2 months old but...Goodwill?

Had the airbag light come on last night on my 06 SR with 245000km. Called the dealer today and gave them the year (didn't mention km) and they said it would most likely be covered. It's booked in for next Wednesday, and I'll report back.

No Dice. Apparently the cut off for the warranty is 200 000km. They wanted about $700 to do the replacement. Looks like I might have to hit up eBay as they can be found for about $120. Does anyone have fitting instructions to do it yourself?

As far as i was aware, the clockspring was covered indefinitely, hit up another dealer, or TMCA.

Just booked mine in next week for airbag clock spring, was surprisingly easy, I Hadn't even finished the sentence and he nodded and started typing into the computer. I confirmed that it is an out of warranty repair an he agreed. Was literally in there thirty seconds, hopefully all goes smoothly next week

due to recent financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel has been shut off until further notice !

He didn't ask how many kms so you might be ok, I just told him it was a 2007 and did it straight away

I was at the Toyota dealer a few months ago about another issue when the mechanic spotted my airbag light on. He informed me that it is covered until either the vehicle has 200,000 km or 7 years old from date of purchase ("off the books" his words)

Tried another dealer today. Again, no luck. This one annoyed me a lot more as I specifically asked twice when I booked it in on the phone whether it would be covered with 246 000km and was told yes, then was told no when I arrived. Staff were rude and wouldn't budge.

Thanks for that. I'll follow that up and see what happens. So far, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with Toyota service...
