Found some time to go into Echuca Toyota today to see what I could about the clock spring, service was unreal, didn't have to book it in, they fixed it immediately no questions asked, less then 30 mins later I was on my way again, no cost to me, couldn't ask for better service then that :D

robbd wrote:hey guys First of all Great information on the clock spring.

A couple of months ago i called up my dealer and they told me 850. Can't really afford to dish out 850 at the time so its been left since.

I've got a 05 sr5 with 145,000.

Has anyone got an out of warranty repair on the clock spring in melbourne? if so which dealer?

i thought it might be easier if i go to the same dealer.

Cheers Robbie

they are obliged to fix it under warranty to the best of my knowledge as it is part of the overall safety system of the vehicle under aust standards.
get it fixed mate
i'm a firm believer in airbags as i experianced them first hand 2 weeks ago in a izusu d-max work ute @ 100 k's full stop

Took my Hilux into Melville Toyota with same problem. He wanted to charge me $740 - the usual. I rang Rockingham Toyotaways and the guy there said he was 100% sure it could be fixed under warranty. Rang Melville back guy said no not under warranty and it will cost $740. Rang Toyotaways back and got told to ask for a form that will be sent to Toyota Australia in Sydney and it will takes two weeks for them to decide if they will cover it or not.

Should I expect that they will cover it? Its a 2006/2007 model 90,000kms on the clock.

This forum is great - armed with some info to get it sorted!

My airbag light came on two days ago. Just had it fixed for nothing, Sep 2005 SR5 with 148,500km on it.

Service person at the dealer said mine's the oldest he''s seen Toyota approve.

Big kudos to Canberra Toyota for getting it sorted, especially this close to Christmas

Good find, I will definitely be taking that information to the local dealer and asking the very same question.

Be interesting to see if they're the same part number

Just spoke to Vince in the service department at Bill Buckle in Brookvale.
He gave me no crap, he knew exactly what the story was, didn't try and deny anything, said he would put the claim in straight away and should have an answer this afternoon, took about 2 minutes.
Pretty pleased to get a straight answer and hopefully a quick solution.
May even restore my faith in dealerships...

I'll let you know the outcome.

Cheers,

Jas.

About 4 hours after the initial call to the dealer they have just called me back to say it's no problem, taking the car in tomorrow morning.

All good, very pleased.

Cheers,

Jas.

Just had ours replaced under warranty - we have a 2005 model. Put the claim into Toyota Aust - also did a gear box mount recall at the same time - no questions asked - we don't even get the car serviced at Toyota. Not bad. Thanks to the forum for saving us over $600. :D

My 2007 2.7 Workmate light came on over the weekend. Had it at the dealer today. 74000km, bought the ute 2nd hand. Quoted me $600 for the clock spring. Asked them to apply for "after warranty repair", they checked and Toyota cleared the request. Paid $0. Very happy

Airbag clock spring

Postby lux 70y on Wed, 30 May 2012 1:09 +0000

Hey all my airbag light came on 3 days ago, searched it on here and found it may be clock spring, I bought that up in conversation with the warranty recall manager when I rang my local dealership here in gosford and he told me that Toyota knew about it that as long as the vehicle was under 84 months old or less than 200,000 kms on the clock it would be covered.. Took it in this morning and was all done along with recall on tail shaft.. My Hilux is sept/05 and has 168,000 on clock.. No cost is great for the age of my truck..

If i were you I'd ring the guy at Melville, then ask for either the service manager, or the dealer principle.

I'd then give them a spray for being lazy. Please do ... it's the only way the crap staff or departments will get sorted out.

by the way ... it shoudl take less than 15 minutes to get it approved.

It took City Toyota (northbridge) 1hr and 15 minutes ... to recieve my car (at 745am) , scan and confirm the fault, ring toyota (or maybe email or some internal system), get approval, FIX the problem, and ring me back just after 930am saying all sorted!

I've had two VERY good dealings with City Toyota ... and I've written their Dealer Principal a letter of thanks ... it's rare these days that dealers are pleasant to deal with.

SOunds like melvile and toyotaways are a bit clueless ... they might be a bit more of a back-water operation, I'm not sure.

Had taken my 2007 hilux in to Northpoint Toyota, 90,000 on the clock. Said i would have to pay $135 to get airbag light diagnosis. Got it checked out, they confirmed broken clock spring. We booked it in for next day, and it was fixed free of charge, out of warranty. Only had the car serviced there a couple of times, so very happy with their actions. Will only have to sort out this water pump now.!!!
