Had my clock spring repaired today under warranty, 2008 with 185,000 no questions asked. Interestingly my cruise control had stopped working loonnngg before the airbag light came on BUT once the clock spring replaced the cruise worked straight away.. Random.. But happy it's all fixed for free

Anyone know if this problem also occurs with Camry? (I forget what year) but it was the model that first came had a sportivo model

I'm asking cause my mum recently had the same issue and had to pay to get it fixed

Good to know Toyota mostly deal with the problem, but what happens when Toyota stop using them in any model and stop making them, they only have to supply parts for 5 years after selling the vehicle. Anyone know if they are available after market or are all our vehicles disposable 5 years after the last one using the spring is sold?

Recall announced today, something about wiring in the steering. Would this be the clock spring? Or do we have another problem? Apparently effects 04 to 09. Any more info appreciated.

its nice how toyota tells its dealers about this issue so we dont look like idiots when the public start calling after the news. its the spiral cable ie clockspring but of course the recall processes havent been set out yet so in due course owners of affected vehicles will get a recall notice.

if you have moved house bought vehicle sh etc make sure to fill out & send it change of owner details so toyota can contact you in this instance. mine is one of the effected so guess who will be lining up head of the que to get it done...

They won't be sending out letters until may/June, it's giving them a chance to stockpile parts, if your light is on contact your dealer if not don't worry about it for now and book it in when it suits you

due to recent financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel has been shut off until further notice !

Been trying to get dealer to replace the spring for a few weeks now , as the light is permanently ON.
Toyota says have to wait for revised spring and will not replace with current spring.
Hope I don't have an accident over a month or so!

Yep it is a recall on that unit. Parts are building and awaiting dispatch shortly. I do believe you can have it replaced if the dealer has one in stock. But the parts are on stop hold awaiting the release date.

Toyota's stance is not to replace any until new ones available. Might wear my bike helmet when driving the lux until that happens

My clock spring has yet to be replaced and the airbag warning light has been on for a couple months.. during this time my horn has worked perfectly fine in expressing my annoyance at other drivers :p

Once the light comes on, it's the airbag that won't deploy in a crash. Same as Vylen, Horn and cruise control were still working when mine came on. But I guess it will depend which of the squib contacts are malfunctioning.

Yes there are also cases where the horn also stops working. Sometimes just the horn and not the airbag.

Here is more info on this recall. Add https://www to the below link and it will take you to an ACCC Recalls page. The page contains a link to a document detailing the VIN's effected.

I will be contacting Toyota this week.
