Warranty or not!

Postby Wanderer85 on Mon, 20 Oct 2014 5:42 +0000

Hi
I noticed some drops of oil on the back of my 2013 Hilux SR after driving for about an hour! On closer inspection I found that oil appeared to be coming from a sender unit at the front drivers side of the transmission.
Next day I booked it in at the local dealer, when I picked the car up they said the oil had come out of the breather which was a normal thing when the transmission got hot. When I asked why would the transmission get hot, they said towing or hard driving, neither of which I was doing!
Then they gave me a bill! I said that I thought it would be covered by warranty they checked with the service manager and he said the transmission was supposed to blow oil out the breather when it gets hot so was not covered by warranty! I was gob smacked!
I'm I out of touch and being unrealistic? Is this normal procedure? Is it normal for the transmission to leak oil out the breather and if so why would it be getting hot?

TKS for any feedback or tips
Gary

Sounds like you need to call toyota australia to sort this one out. Keep that invoice for a shop credit and take pics of your oil leak.

Ok so just to get my ducks in a line I called the dealer who I brought the car from and discussed it with them, they said that it was definitely warranty (yes I know its an easy call for them to make when I am 4 hours from them but I was interested on their read of the situation) and suggested that I give Toyota Customer Care a call which I did. They took all the details, gave me a ref number and said they would chase it up and get back to me within 48hrs.
This arvo I got a call first from the dealers customer service manager saying they were looking into it, then an hour or so later from the Toyota Australia rep I spoke to letting me know that the dealer was looking into it and they would get back to me
Hopefully I should hear from them tomorrow. The other question I have is should I be looking at the transmission? I was not doing anything to cause it to get hot if as they say that causes it to leak oil from the breather?

howdy wanderer85 new to the forum and giving advice so ah here it goes only reason oil would be coming out of your breather is if it is getting to hot but generally only happens on sand or towing caravans or big loads normal driving shouldn't cause it, but if your oil leval is to high that could also cause it to leak out the breather
hope this helps

cheers

Yeah the engineers at Toyota designed the transmission to spit oil out of the breather
The usual creative bs.
Wrong oil can foam up and cause it.
Overfull can cause it.
Running hot (as in towing) can't cause it, absolute croc of shit.
Regards Chris.

Ok so I have spoken to both Toyota Australia and the Dealer a number of times and this is where we are at, The dealer says that Toyota Australia says its not warranty, Toyota Australia say that the dealer says that its not warranty! Get a strong feeling that I am being given the run around!
They both say that it is "Normal Operations" for the transmission to leak oil when it gets hot! I pointed out that there is nothing about this in the manual but to no avail!
Next step will be to send a letter detailing my issues with them and seeing what comes back!
Any suggestions?

Go to another dealer, or get a second look at it and a report for someone with a high repertation in the area
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................
