2013 Hilux Touch Screen Audio Fault

Postby jemo on Sun, 20 Apr 2014 3:53 +0000

Hi all, had a quick search on here and couldn't find any similar threads. The stereo/radio in my one year old, 10 000km, SR5 has just started playing up. Most functions seem to work ok but the touch screen is locked in FM Radio mode. You can use steering wheel controls to change stations, volumn, etc but you can't change any functions by touching the screen. Real pain because you can change things with the steering wheel controls but because the screen is locked you can't see where you have changed to. I will drop into Toyota here in Christchurch, NZ during the week and see what they have to say. I will post the outcome for anyone who might be interested, Cheers.

Disconnect the battery for 1 hr it will do a hard reset. That will fix your problem.

Cheers. I did pull the "ACC" fuse under the dash for 10 seconds thinking that would be enough (I'm a sparkie by trade and work in an electronics industry now so I thought 10 seconds would be enough) but hopefully your right and it needs longer. Do you think pulling the associated fuse will be sufficient or does it need the battery disconnected? I noticed with the fuse out the security red LED on the stereo still flashed. Thanks boxhead55.

Make sure you have or disable the security code as you will need it when you reconnect the battery!!!!!!!

You were correct boxhead55 - I did as you suggested and it is all go again. I did need the security code as you mentioned also. I'll just monitor it for a while and see if it happens again before contacting Toyota NZ just in case it's one of those one off things. Thanks for your help again - awesome mate.

in the process of having mine replaced under warranty (MY14 SR5), I was unable to do the update, couldn't change the time zone on the GPS for arrival times then having the volume on the FM/AM drop off completely (after a month of being told by the over the phone help team that it was just my reception on my phone not being strong enough to complete the update and to move to a different location) I spoke to a technician at CMI and had a new unit ordered in and waiting to be installed.
