front brake recall

Postby hamlux on Tue, 28 Jan 2014 11:08 +0000

after a long and frustrating confusion this morning at toyota for my first 10,000km service i mentioned about squeaking brakes to which i was told it would only happen in reverse and would be the rears and its something that i will have to get used to... anyway never happened to me in reverse and on pick up they informed me that there is a recall for the front brakes. so now they are on order and will be getting fitted when they arrive.

i have a 2013 sr5 hilux for all those with the same build year/ model.

i wont mention the first issue as its too long to type out but i got the ute with a complimentary clean and wash... barely a wash, you can see where they couldnt reach on the roof. smeared windows. inside was below half assed attempt. i have a slight scratch on my windscreen now that the sun hits and gets in your eye, they scratched where the door handle is on the inside with a screw driver i assume, as the head of the screw and surroundings have been attacked... nice one

It is not a recall but a service campaign. You need to ask about it!!!!

So again IT IS NOT A RECAll !

depends what dealership you go to, I finally got mine done on Tuesday after first complaining about them in December 2012 at the 1000. They did try the tricks with the pads but didn't work. But not the dealers fault I don't think, Toyota didn't acknowledge it as a fault till mid 2013 sometime which is when I was told a set had been ordered for me. They must have been having a slow day cause I got a really good wash and it is great not listening to that annoying squeal backing out of the diveway.

BH, my '11 SR has had a horrible squeal since before the last service (60,000k) they cleaned them and all was fine for about 1000km, it's almost due for the next service, I'm expecting them to expect me to pay for machining the rotors or something, I don't know much about brakes but surely I shouldn't have to have the rotors machined every 60,000km?

What can I say to get out of having to pay to have the problem rectified?

you may have to skim them as your is not a vsc model and this is the known issue . go back to the first post and look at the pics and you will understand.

Sorry BH, are you saying this is only a known issue with the VSC models?
My 2009 has a loud humming style noise when stopping under light braking sometimes. It's no biggie but if It's covered under a service campaign and I can have it fixed then I may as well

Yes it is only the 2012 forward hilux with vsc that this is in relation to.

You could try.

But it is most likely a worn rotor or rust build up causing your issues ware and tare is not a warrantable condition.

I have seen , well machined rotors and drums as early as 10 000km due to river sand eating into them. As the customers did not investigate noises after 4x4 ing and this was the result.

Good luck

Hope I have helped.

Damn I have a 2012 SR without VSC but I have the squealing brakes been doing it since just past the 10,000km service they did something at the 20,000km which removed it for about 1,000km but its back again.
I'm getting the plastic trim parts on the ARB bull bar replaced as soon as Toyota gets them in and they said they will look at the brakes to see if they need replacing under the service campaign.

Funny how they can do a service campaign on squeaky front brakes when self adjusting rear brakes don't adjust and the handbrake only works for a few thousand kms after "manually adjusting". It won't even make it to the next service.

Mine's in for a service and rotor replacement this Tuesday. Had to wait for delivery of new rotors to dealership. The squealing is really bad at the moment and is embarrassing
