Squeeling brakes

Hi all,

Has anyone else had trouble with their brakes squeeling in reverse when cold, had my hilux just over a year now and complained about it at the 10 000 service so they removed the pads and roughed them up and polished the rotors but no joy, since then been verbally acknowledged there is a problem with the model in Australia and assured they will be replaced as soon as they get the parts issued by Toyota and they are issued in order of complaints, been several months now and I ask every service but informed last week at the 40 000 that there are none available in Australia ( bet if I ring and ask a dealer for a price to buy some they will find a set) so still waiting, just hope they get here before I smash my front windows in the house while backing out of my yard. It really is ear-piercing, have to cover ears if close to it. Very grateful I have tolerant neighbours.

Very embarrassing with a new 50 000 plus dollar car.

if you use the search button above and type in key words you can normally find a thread already dedicated to the issue in question.

Here is the one I found which I believe will be helpful to you

had this response yesterday as i have the same issue car is booked in tomorrow to rectify

"We will need to check and see if the noise is coming from the back or the front of the vehicle as there have been report of vehicles simular to your with brake noise coming from the front, and if yours is the same as the production affected, then we will need to replace the disc's and pads to eliminate the problem. There is no issue with the performance of the current disc's apart from the noise. "

hope this helps

according to the noosa dealers there are no rotors in Australia at the moment, I bet they just mean none allocated for free replacement.

That doesn't surprise me, there are no nuts for the tie rods either

I'm off to the dealer tomorrow to have this looked at and also the hard tarp has scratched the paint and doesn't sit right. Hopefully they fix both if not brakes at the next service as they can order parts

Cheers

I was actually talking to Toyota about this today and they told me that it may not be under warranty for my model (2012) and the would need to keep the car overnight so they can hear the noise first thing in the morning!

Yes Toyota is out of stock at the moment taking back orders. You can appreciate the amount of 2012-2014 sr5 units with vsc which can all make this noise due to the front rotor
Design. Good tho they are giving you fee rotors and new brake pads a!

Picked up car this afternoon from local Toyota and they get 5 stars.
They changed the discs and pads adjusted the hard tarp and have asked for me or them to organise to get the rear tub touched up on the next service.
Full credit to the local dealer and great service and all it took was an email on Monday, i never suggested anything other then that i had a really bad squeal when cold and in reverse and that the rear hard tarp was rubbing really bad in 2 places.

Happy customer

Cheers

That's what you expect when you buy a car off them, cant understand dealers that try to screw people.
I have been amazed by the service I got with the first car I got off his dealer and that was second hand. Hence the reason I paid a little more to get the hilux from them. They replaced parts on it one month out of their warranty period and then even told me there was other parts needed but they didn't have in stock and asked me to take I back in a week and they fitted them all free, and that car had 80 000 on the clock.
When I was in there they were explaining to a lady the reason her heater fan and speed resistor had to be replaced was because a mouse got stuck in it, another second hand car hey sold her, it was not the cars fault, but the account come to $0.00 and they apologized to her!
Maybe I am just lucky to live near this dealer.

BH is Toyota classing it as a recall or is it up to the owner to ask about the noise being fixed? Mine is doing it as well but I just thought it would go away with time. Had it's 10k service last break and didn't think to mention it but I will when it goes in for its next service.

Have the same issue with my 2012 hilux. Bought the car 3 weeks ago with 30,000km on the clock. Rang the dealer friday n asked if its covered under warranty and was told they would have to look at it first , so Booked in first thing Monday morning to get it looked at.. Hopefully not out of pocket.
Sounds like its coming from the front, doesn't matter whether hot or cold, really high pitched squeak all the time....
