2006 cross member cracked

Postby fullhouse on Fri, 13 Sep 2013 3:26 +0000

Hey all
Got my wife to take my 2006 hilux to Toyota to get the SRS light looked at, yep clock spring buggered.

Fixed it under warranty no problems but they then proceed to tell her there is a recall on the hilux, they checked it out today and said yep the cross member is cracked and it will need the recall work... This will take a week to a week and a half! Wtf! I'm now without my hilux for this time! They won't give me a loan car either (kind of sucks seeing I work for Toyota forklifts and they won't help a brother out yet) hope they give me one on Monday once they talk to tica about the situation.

2006 cross member cracked

If it it cracked the repair requires replacement of the #4 crossmember by a qualified smash repair place.

The hole cross member has to come off and the new one welded back in place.

The only way to do this is to remove the fuel tank and tub/tray and lift or remove the cab to gain access to the weld locations. A huge job !
Only ever seen one cracked and the same had to happen.

This customer only come to the shop for a electrical fault no one else could find. He services the ute elsewhere.

As per requirements the vin was checked for outstanding recalls in of which he had 3.

Bonnet brace recall
Cross member recall
And steal bulbar recall

His electrical problems was fixed
And all other repairs recalls were done for free.

The cross member replacement did take about 11 working days.

Box head, what is the crossmember recall? I know I've had bonnet recall and tailshaft bracket, but I've never heard of the cross member one?!

If you are ever unsure. Just get your local toyota dealer to check your VIN number for any outstanding recalls. It is a free service as you may be the 2nd or 3rd owner and have not got any paperwork.

Simples!

Are we all talking about the same tail shaft bracket? The one I had done was for the tail shaft centre bearing and they just added a brace that hang a little lower. Not 11 days worth if work. Which one are you talking about?

That's correct after drilling the 4 inspection holes then inspecting for cracks. If no cracks are found the support brackets are fitted.

But I there is a crack the hole cross member has to be replaced.

So yours as thousands of others did not have a cracks.

best thing to do if u buy a secondhand one is fill out the change of owner slip or go into your Toyota dealer with the vin they can change it for you.
I work as a service advisor for a Toyota dealer get a lot of people who don't normally goto Toyota they come in as no one else can fix their problems and outstanding recalls cause they haven't notified Toyota.
