Cabin damage from hard tonneau cover

Postby Aquaholics on Fri, 07 Dec 2012 10:17 +0000

Hey all,

I remember seeing a few reports from people finding marks in their cabin from the wings :?: of the hard tonneau cover ( fixed parts under the sports bar) hitting the rear of the cab. My truck had small marks where it looked like they had touched at some point when I first got it (used) but after a few runs off road the damage is 10 time worst.

Did anyone discuss this issue with their dealer? Were they willing to consider it a warranty issue give it is poor design/fitting?

Same as mine. However got repaired under warranty. Changed to canopy later and have been told by dealer that toyota will change the design shortly.

I wonder if they have made the change yet. My guess is they wont repair before they can avoid it happening again. I wonder if it can be realigned to stop/reduce the damage.

When I bought mine it looked like the detailers had left a little polish in a hard to reach spot. I soon found this wasn't the case but now like you Mick there are two dints as well as the pain rubbing through.

Hopefully Mr Toyota will come to the party.

After coming back from Fraser Island my 2012 SR5 has two dents also. I told my toyota dealer during my last service so they took photo's apparently and sent them to Toyota to be assessed. they told me the tub would have to be removed for repair. Being a panel beater all the repairer will do is just bog it, personally I don't want bog and a different paint brand on my vehicle, so I,m still going through the thought process as to what I want done, I am really thinking towards a canopy deal. To fix the problem, Toyota would have to modify their rear panel dye to concave each side I reckon,, cheers

I had a hard cover on my truck then I Installed a canopy a few weeks ago. But I never remember seeing them when I bought the truck. Does the tub move that much? What damage will be done with my canopy??
Cheers, Stuart

I've got the dents as well. Think you can loosen all the bolts (6 holding down the tub) and pull the tub backwards 10 or so mm. You will have a larger gap though and probably wont look as pleasing.

Hi all,

Well it's take 6 months but got a call from my local dealer yesterday, "Toyota Australia have agreed to fix the paint damage and fit new parts to ensure it doesn't happen again" but the dealer was lost for words when I said it's not just a paint issues, there are also dints in the cabin. Anyway once the parts arrive I will book her in and see what they do to repair the damage.
