Extra Warranty

Postby Rich on Mon, 17 Dec 2007 10:20 +0000

I have just found out (on the weekend) that Toyota have an option of extending the original factory warranty for an extra 3 years for $1310.
This gives you 6 years 100,000 km.

Or for around $1800 ($500 more)you can get 6 years 200,000 km.

This warranty is exactly the same as the factory warranty, no exclusions - unfortunately you have to do it at the time of purchase, (not later) to get this particular warranty that is the same as the factory warranty.

I am a little cranky as I was never told about it by my salesman and now I have missed out.

For the same price, I can still buy another warranty but it is not as good and has exclusions.

I feel like writing a letter of complaint to Toyota about this.

Who else was not told about the warranty options when they purchased their Hilux and which dealership did you go through?

I went through Newcastle Toyota.

Rich.

Extra Warranty

I was assured by the business manager at Brisbane Motorama 4X4 that I could purchase the extended warranty at any time prior to end of factory warranty. I must contact them again to confirm. Knowing my luck I will be too late.

Cheers

Extra Warranty

Postby Rich on Mon, 24 Dec 2007 3:15 +0000

you can purchase an extended warranty anytime prior to the factory warranty running out, its called warranty assist. It is just not as good as the original factory warranty or the 5 star platinum warranty extra care you would get if you purchase it at the time of the new car purchase - as I mentioned above.

Yes you can purchase a warranty anytime within the 3 year factory warranty, but it is not the same or as good.
Hopefully I am clear of the point now that I originally tried to make.....

there are 2 types of warranties you can purchase

1. a good warranty the same as the original factory warranty (if purchased when the car is new); and

2. A lessor warranty can be purchased anytime within the factory warranty period but IT IS NOT AS GOOD...

Extra Warranty

So, back to my original question, aside from those who bought there trucks at mike carney, were you told of the 5 star platinum warranty that you could have purchased?

If you go back now and ask about purchasing extra warranty they will say
" oh yeah sure we can do that" which is true....

What they are not telling you is that you will pay the same price for warranty 1/2 as good as what you could have got - if they would have done their job and explained it at the time of purchase...
