New Hilux - Do I take up the extended warranty?

Postby NimrodAUS on Fri, 06 Jul 2012 5:09 +0000

Okay, yes is my answer, extended warranty is Definately worth it. I got an 05 kluger with 36k on the clock a couple years ago, got 3 year 150,000 km warranty on it. They have replaced ac compressor, radiator and alternator, us had the radiator grill repainted. Payed $1500 for it. On my new car getting the full works think it brings it to 200,000km and 6 years for $1800 I think. Ok so an important thing.. When I bought my kluger (second hand) from Toyota in rocky (Ian weigh are awesome to deal with and have any part for landcruiser or hilux u could imagine) the said that if I didn't get the extra care when I purchased the car I couldn't get it. Now with a new car there are two different types you can get I believe, one when u pick the car up, and one before the factory warranty runs out. They are different and if you guys are thinking about this u need to seriously go and get the info. Cause the other type is shit and doesn't really cover anything useful. Just check it out guys.

Here goes a test to see how Toyota treat this one. I have four days until my TECW runs out and on the 2nd last day I have it booked it for them to asses my slightly leaking rear diff (see photo below). What do you think my chances are of them fixing this considering I get my car serviced by another mechanic in town?? I'll keep you posted. I also took it to a 3rd mechanic (my normal one is unavalable) on the way home tonight who said, although not an immediate problem I wouldn't be going through water like this, and yes they should fix it under warranty. Any thoughts people.

Good news everybody. They agreed to fix diff leak totally at their cost and it will be done tomorrow, the last day of my TECW warranty. Couldn't be happier :D . So I guess I owe a thumbs up to TECW and my local Toyota dealer.

All fixed now. Job completed on last day or TECW. Cost for the job would have been $290

So in three years I had one gear box and the above repair all done under TECW. Not a bad return on an investment of $1500

I think you are better off with the extended warranty. The reason being is that it usually pays for itself in repairs. Even if you can do the repairs yourself that is too.
