Thanks Berniecam, The mechanic showed me the crack, whilst it was up on the hoist.
I am NO mechanic, but apparently, its a significant crack.
My concern is: a local panel beater is going to do the work, as the Toyota garage is too busy!
What assurances do i have, or should expect, if the local panel beater does a crap job.
Not Happy.....to say the least.
Cheers

altacolin, if I were you i'll be talking to the DP (dearler principal) than the service manager about the fix. The yaris as a loan car is a joke. Surely they could lend you a workmate hilux at least!?? Ifthe DP spits the dummy I would consider a nice long letter posted to TMCA (Toyota Motor Corp. Aust.) I have there postal address some where since it's not on the Toyota Aust site.

Anyone had a diesel up to 200km/h?
Besides down a mine shaft?

Not too many drag cars using chain as tailshaft loops any more, the universal steel hoops are too easy to install.

175 so not far off.

Just coming from a integrity background, the bearing bracket has cracked from the sounds of what has been circulating in threads it's due to fatigue cyclic loading in which could ( emphasis on could) be a design fault in which case repairing with means of welding doesn't solve this problem if "old mate panel beater" is going to weld I would be cautious as welding panels is not the same as as welding up
Components that a subject to constant load bearing applications, I doubt the any form of Stress relieving would take place either, by welding you introducing high levels of heat , alloying agents impurities and contaminants into a localized area and as such begin to change the grain structure of the parent materials aswell metallurgical properties.

I would be asking for a brand new item,
I wouldnt Want to be crossing the Simpson if it re cracked and failed

Just a thought....

Recall done today along with 80,000 klm service. Told that they inspect internal of bracket with scope(like the one a surgeon sticks up your bum to check out inside) & then spray crossmember with xray spray to check for fractures. If all OK they then fit the hoop. Water pump was also changed under warranty as a slight leak when driven 100 k's or more. Happy at this point. (4/08 D/C auto d4d)

Grrrrrrrr
Just had a call from pennant hills Toyota telling I needed to get the recall done. Cars up for a service next month so I thought I would get it done then. I was then advised that there is a waiting list till January to get the recall done, so I said it will have to wait till your no longer busy.

Here's the good part they then said it is was not safe or recommended I wait. So it's ok to wait for them to be ready but it's not safe to wait till I'm ready

There is a waiting list here in Kal to booked out till Jan but I managed to get mine squeezed in yesterday so should have it back today. Mind you considering I bought it brand new 4 weeks ago they should have done it before they gave it to me!!! I hate dealerships

And I thought that having to wait untill 18th December at motorama was bad! It will have to wait untill next year when I have moved to Cairns. Trust the dealer up there more than Motorama anyway.

I put my hilux on the hoist this morning to retension the u bolts now that the suspension has had time to settle and so i could check toyotas work as the recall was done on mine 2 days ago. Upon closer inspection i noticed that one of the bolts they had put in was hard up against my long range tank. So to prevent the bolt rubbing a hole in my tank i just spaced it out. So it might pay to check your cars once it has been done. Here is a photo so you can see what i am talking about.

Just a thought....

Hi all, i need some help.
My TRD had a cracked member, which was a major repair job.
My Local dealer ( Kyneton Toyota) advised a local panel beater would do the job. Then they changed, and sent it to Le Mans in Melbourne. Toyotas website, claims the repairs would be two days, mine took 22 days!!!!! This week it goes back to the dealer, as their attention to detail has been appalling....eg air con, and UHF not working, driving lights not working, passenger door will not open/ shut correctly, and the whole cabin is visually out of balance. I have sent 4 emails, and made countless calls to Toyotas Head Office, and no one would respond. I have been out of business for 4 weeks, and their best offer is a $300 service voucher. I am pissed, but need to know what to do.
