So what is actually the problem?

The bolts coming loose or the bracket breaking?

i dont think any one knows the exact problem as its conflicting information. pics showing and talk about fractures in a cross member. this would have to be a major malfunction if it was to crack the cross member enough to drop centre bearing to any degree. but then toyota produces a shitty loop that that does nothing for the cross member. is it a misunderstanding where they are calling the bearing support the crossmember. this would make sense and line up with the crappy loop. i asked the service manager yesterday, and blah cross fract etc loop etc. i told him its shit and will catch the prob not fix it. they also asked me to make a day to get it done. um you dont have parts till mid month i was told. oh no we have them. FOR EFF SAKE I HAVE TO BRING IT BACK. yes we need it for 5 hours. so i loose another day of work. i have to honestly say after watching again through the window if you have no brain and dont like to work hard then work at a dealer. 2 hr to change oil and filter..... oh they didnt break or back into anything this time.

There are no accessories such as bull bar fitted by Toyota at the time of, or after, I bought the truck, so I will need to find out why mine is listed as being affected. Built in May, so I did not expect this. Will be interesting to find out.

Hey Tinners it dsont matter if accessories were fitted. The bull bar recall effects certain models by their chassis number regardless if you had one fitted.

Could this be the reason I hear a clanking noise in the back when I am decelerating very quickly and coming to a complete stop buy pushing my clutch all the way and going into gear one while pressing the breaks? It aggitates me... going into Gear 1+2 is also very hard even thought he clutch is fully pressed.

I have a 2009 SR5 Diesel Dual Cab.

I was told that they cracktest and replace the member if faulty and fit the loop bracket as a 'Duty of Care' precaution to avert a serious incident should there be an issue in the future.
It sounds to me like there is not much of a problem at all with only 17 actual cases of failure in how many thousand vehicles? More an arse covering procedure to protect themselves from litigation which I think is fair enough!

R3XNebular, you need a new 2nd gear, synchro and sleeve. It is a common problem, they didn't hesitate for a moment to fix mine when I took it in. may need a new gear stick as well.

Got the recall letter today for the bullbar, but not the cracking rear end. Built May 2010 SR D/C.

Mine is also very hard to get in to first gear some times, almost like there is no syncro and I need to fully stop and not just slow down to get it in there, so I will need to ask about that at the same time.

I noticed with my hilux is if I press the clutch in fully and THEN try and get the gear into 1 it is very hard. But if I press the clutch at the same time while moving the gear into 1 it is alot easier. Same with the reverse gear. Asked to get it checked but they didn't really check it out they have to do a road test etc.. before they change anything.. FFS.

My mate has a 2010 sr5 d4d and he just got the letter regarding the cracking in the bull bar mounts on corrigated roads and cattle grids. Nothing about the center bearing....

I also just heard on the radio toyota is considering another recall due to leaking break fluid. It didnt say what particular models were going to be affected it just said many toyota models..... hmmmm not good

HELP I have a TRD 08 Model. My local Toyota garage has advised me, that the cross member has quiet a crack in it.
Its a massive repair job.....so they say.
They advise they are too busy to do the work, which involves lifting the whole cabin off the chassis.
Thus a local panel beater is " going to to the job', which will take a week at least...so they say.
The vehicle is still under warranty.
What happens, if the ' panel beater' does an " elcheapo' repair job?
The TRD was my pride and joy.
For a loan car, I copped a Yaris , which sort of makes it hard, to do what the dual cab, with canopy is used for.
Not happy....to say the least.
Any assistance appreciated.
Cheers all
