Racor fuel filter

mine is pre-facelift (2011 model but isnt the facelift) and it has an audible buzzer.

sorry mate i wasnt aware. I was more hoping to seek an answer regarding whether or not its necessary to hook up another 'audiable buzzer' to the pre filter or not and also to seek clarification on the 10 micron FM pre filter.

probably wouldnt be necessary to connect the buzzer on the pre filter, but it also wouldnt hurt to be made aware of any water that may get in, just that little bit sooner. i would personally be connecting it when i get mine done.
as for the the 10 micron filter, im certain i read somewhere that a few people had a small argument with some saying that it doesnt matter all that much and others saying that it does need to be a 10. so it might just be a personal opinion.

Personal preference Dave.
It's not *necessary* to hook it up in order for the pre-filter to work. But a big benefit of using a pre filter is knowing about problems before it gets to the OEM filter or worse, past it. It kind of defeats the half the purpose if you dont bother with the pre filters buzzer

I asked our Toyota dealer today about fitting a second filter with the glass bottom .
I wanted to know if it will void my warranty if i got one fitted
They said no problems sir $170.00 fitted.
Service man said they are fitting a lot of them and are recommending them to all new owners.

Maybe it is an admission from toyo that the oem filter is inadequate!

Also a general enquiry, anyone considered fitting the prefilter under the cab on the chassis (with adequate protection of course)? This may give some extra room in the engine bay.

It is getting fitted next week. I will post some photos and details after it is done .
No admission that there filter does not do the job.He did say the workshop has replaced a lot of injectors because of water in the fuel.Strange that he said mostly on the 200 series.My Boss and a work mate have both had to get new injectors for there 200 series .One was only 8 months old .
I do not know if they have the same filter system as the Hilux.
On our motorhome you can see the prefilter near the fuel filler ,so every time you fill up it is easy to see if there is water or crud in there .I drain it often as there is always water and crud in there.

You can go 30 micron with your primary filter if you want.
Or you can go 10 micron. Up to you really. 10 to 7 micron sounds better than 30 to 7 micron.
That is all. It really doesn't matter, as long as you have one.
Ye, just don't go the 2 micron filter in the primary filter position. The first filter assembly after the fuel tank.

My local Toyota dealer fitted my "post filter" after the origional toyota filter. They fitter a 2+2 system. Their justification was that they wanted the factory unit with buzzer to work and catch the gunk and water and the second unit was there to catch whatever was missed. How risky is the 2+2 set up for longevity of fuel pump and injectors?? I rang up a few dealers regarding this as my hilux was a month old at the time. Some were happy with the pre filter set up, one in Mackay QLD suggested they fit a 2nd factory filter and wire in the buzzer and light. My local dealer said they had fitter a number of the Stanadyne fuel master systems and had no issues. As it was fitted by the dealer its under my extended warranty. Thoughts?

Just some follow up on my Feb 2013 post on this thread. Page 5 or 6?

I recently changed both my OEM filter (Ryco brand) and the 30micron prefilter (Racor) for my 120K service. The OEM filter was last chaged at 110K and I believe I put the Racor one in around the 105K mark.

Figure 1 - Shows the Ryco filter with all the <30micron gunk that still gets through to the OEM filter stage. I was alerted to it by my fuel warning light coming on solid, which at the time scared me as I thought it was the water in fuel.


Figure 2 - Shows the Racor filter opened up with a moderate amount of gunk. This is about 15k old but the vacum guage on the filter unit did not suggest it was blocked so I guess it wasn't.

The Racor suggested service intival is 19K km's so after looking at the above pictures I would be happy to push it onto there and save money.

Can anyone recommend a good place in Brisbane to have a Fuel/Water Separator fitted to my 2010 SR5 that is running a dual Battery System under the hood? Really don't like the thought of doing this one myself, would like to get someone who knows what they are doing to have it installed on the Drivers Side of my Truck. Thanks!

Surely the prefilter can be wired up in parallel with the OEM filter light and buzzer ?

Why hook a new light and buzzer up if ya can hook it up to the one already there !

Anyone thought about or done this ?

Very simple reason, you would want to know which filter has the water in it when a buzzer goes off...

The best way to fit another filter to these vehicles is, place the aftermarket one before the genuine Toyota fuel filter assembly.
With the micron, a step down affair is best, eg. 30 micron down to 7 micron.
I am now using the Fuel Management brand, mainly because, I can buy the bracket and all, and just fit it to my customer's vehicles.
I just buy them through Maxiparts, or QLD Diesel Spares.
These kits make it just to easy.
The AUD has gone right down now, so bringing the Racor brand has become to expensive.
There is always a better way.

Yep thats the whole point - to know that the pre filter has the water in and not the oem.

yep X2 and the pre-filter has a bowl doesn't it, so you can see if it has water in it?
