Diesel fuel problem

Postby Seaair on Tue, 28 Aug 2007 12:23 +0000

I have been away (with my head buried in books) and return to the site.

I have read all the 'concerned' responses from members regarding diesel fuel issues earlier this month.

First of all - 10K thanks for your input in allerting us to the unfortunate problems you have faced. This has made me and no doubt more others aware of the potential diesel fuel problems. I wish you all the best in your court battle.

Has anyone managed to find out whether regularly replacing the fuel filter on the D4D is necessary?

Are there any mechanical experts who can put a lid on this issue finally?

Dave, have you been able to make any headway on this vexing issue?

PS...I purchase fule from Shell and Caltex and have had no problems in my 51000kms travelled - including many dusty road throughout outback WA.

Diesel fuel problem

Mark,

Thanks for the support, much appreciated.

It would be excellent to get some informed answers on this issue!!
I think that there will a fair bit of grey area for a while until diesel mechanics etc get a some decent experience under their belts with common rail fuel injection systems.

Considering the premium we are all paying at the moment for diesel, the least we could expect is first grade fuel, especially from all the big players.

I hope no one else suffers my tail of woes.
Be very careful with your fuel.
Use the same service station.
Ask when the last fuel drop was.
Replace your filter every service at minimum.

Good luck to all.

Cheers
Matt

How long after a fuel drop do you think you should wait?

Diesel fuel problem

Rich,

I honestly wouldn't know? I have good relationshiop with my local station and they tell me if they have had a fuel drop that day, I don't buy if they have. I re-fill between 1/3 to 1/4 tank, so I have a bit of scope if I need to wait a day.

I wonder if anyone out there has service station experience and would know how long it takes for the muck stirred up to settle back to the bottom after a fuel drop?

Does anybody have this experience, or know anyone who does?
