Fuel filter help

Any ideas about replacing the fuel filter?

Toyota provide the filter element only and not the whole casing.

If this is correct, how do you remove the original element?

Do you need to remove the sensors ect?

Or is it as simple as unscrewing the top assembly and just placing the new element within the existing housing?

How much is the filter ?

Did your fuel warning light "light" up ?

Been thinking about obtaining a filter to carry as spare :-)

Yeah thats a good move... I just did that, but be careful that you get the right parts... I got a fuel and oil filter, top and bottom radiator hoses and a fan belt.. only the fan belt was way too small.. I was going to fit the new parts and keep the old ones for spares...that way you can fit the new ones in the comfort of your garage and you definately know that the old ones are going to fit... Hi TOMUCH.

A little off the topic but, I also purchased a spare fan belt just in case. In relation to that fan belt, which pulley do you release so you can fit the belt on?

PS.. Brett B - The filter element was around $20+ or from Toyota. The light did not come on but I am not taking any precautions.

The info. would be appreciated.

Ok, I have included a pic of the pulley... now you will need to use some imagination here... the red line is a 14mm spanner... a long one, or use an extention pipe.. the white arrow indicates the pulley and the black arrow indicates the direction to pull the "spanner" to loosen the belt...now you are not trying to loosen the bolt...the pulley is on a spring and it will turn in an arc thus loosening the belt...Cheers TOMUCH

It is not recondmended to change the fuel filter until the light comes on.

We are Denso dealers and we had this discusion at a training day recently, the filter is rated at 2 micron and by changing it there is a greater risk of getting forgien matter inside the injection system.

Absolutely... I have kept my new filter wrapped up and in its original box.... Just as insurance...would hate to have the light come on out in the desert and not have a spare... Cheers TOMUCH

i changed the filter the first time @39000k,
bought a spare the other day cost about 25 bucks because i reckon the truck had lost it's edge.
so i opened it up to have a look and i'm glad i did because it was black after only 6000 k the light hadn't come on at that stage.
i do drive it at ten tenths so i notice it.
gunna do it every 10,000 regardless to be sure
cheers

To: Olcoolone

Thanks for your info.

How then can you ensure that foreign matter does not get inside the injection system - if you want to do the job yourself?
