Having my Steinbauer unit fitted Friday and wanted to know should i use factory setting
or go higher straight away

Honestly, no I had mine set at halfway before I had it hooked up to the computer for some tuning where it was returned to factory setting and I haven't changed it since. The initial gain is noticeable but I don't think the little bit of manual tweeking will give you much of a tingle in the front of your pants.

Had the Steinbauer fitted today and noticed the gain under 2000rpms strait away on factory setting but couldn't help myself and put it on its highest setting ,what a buzz.Will return it to a lower setting after the novelty wears off(maybe)

Leave it on high, just put a switch in the cab when you feel like going back to normal

It's all or nothing

What is the factory setting? i've had mine on full since day dot but been thinking of reducing it due to my fuel consumption. I,m averaging 12.8per 100

How do i change the setting on my stienbauer. i bought my car with it and want to see what its set on.

Nick, You undo the 4 little screws on the back of the black casing and you should find a little blue knob for fine tuning it. It goes from 70% to 120% from what I remember.

Is it as simple as twisting the dial?? Thought there was more to it than that

Yeah mate as simple as that. I think I might have the newer model though, so the other ones may be slightly different.

pulled mine out and found the blue knob, mine doesnt have any % markings on it..
it was set in the middle of plus and minus.

so if i turn it to full plus i guess thats the highest setting? Is there anything wrong with using the highest apart from using more fuel ....

Haha no worries.

I had mine on the highest setting for a while but I found I was slipping my clutch too much (after 130000km I guess that would happen), so I toned it back down to the Mid point.

i just turned mine up to max... went for a spin, goes good.

how do i tell if its making my clutch slip?

Mine only seems to slip sometimes in 3rd and 4th under heavy acceleration at around 2grand rpm. It feels like the back wheels are slipping like they do in the wet, but you will notice the revs suddenly jump up.

went for another good drive its not slipping, ill know what to look out for though if it does.

Can you put a switch in with the steinbauer ? and what does it do?

There is an wire to put a switch in place. it just disables the module and goes back to factory settings.

I have just fitted mine up to my 07 and was not seeming to get some of the performance gains claimed by others, I have been talking to the guys at Steinbauer and Diesel Care, both have been very helpful so far. This morning I threw the old duck across the rollers and confirmed a complete lack of change when the trim pot is set at 100% until it reaches 3500rpm(the settings are 80% Min- and 130% Max+ on the dial as quoted by Steinbauer for future reference). The information I have is that at 100% setting on the trim pot and under load the module increases the PW of the injector to 150ms, when set at 130% the PW increases to 195ms.

This should mean that at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) the pulse width should increase across the whole fuel map, Dyno results this morning proved otherwise at 100%. However at 130% this was true and I had gains close to Steinbauer's claims.

Legend:

Pink – Steinbauer disconnected from harness, stock run
Green – Trim pot set at 100% (vertical pointer)
Red – Trim pot set at 130% (full)

Going back to the information around the injector pulse width and how the module changes that, all runs were at WOT so no progressive acceleration and when you look at the 100% trim (Green) it’s clear it stays at the factory load table until 3400rpm before altering the pulse width.

Other than that, the increase at 130% is reasonably close to the Stienbauer claims of 19.1%. My engine at 95RwKW is not bad for a 200K old engine, an overall gain of 17.8% to 111.9RwKW. Although the amount of un-burnt fuel is horrific out the exhaust at that setting. I will leave it at 130% and monitor the fuel economy over the next two weeks.

In my 150 turbo diesel Prado I leave my Steinbauer set at about three o'clock. This equates about 115% power setting. For a recent trip I set it at position four o'clock. The comment about the fuel I'd right I say, towing up thru the New England range to Brisbane from the hunter valley with my loaded 150 and loaded up steel camper (approx 4.3 tonne) I averaged 13.5 litres per hundred kilometers.

I reset the Steinbauer to position three o'clock for the return trip and averaged 12.5 litres per hundred kilometers. So the position is important to fuel use results. I'm happy at position three in my engine.
