Now theres some crud for yas!Image I think the problem was its actually out of fuel but I think the warped bottom of the tank wad holding the float up so i didn't know it was empty!

My old bj40 cruiser used to do exactly what you have described. The inbuilt vent in the fuel cap was stuck to the seal and wouldn't vent the tank.

How did the breather look? Some get caked in dust, then water turns the dust into cement: No more breather
I've extended mine into the engine bay. Did think of running it into one of the tail lights but with the negative pressure caused by forward movement all the dust gets sucked into the rear light cavities - sort of negates the purpose... at least for very dusty regions.

Well she's sorted! Cleaned the pickup screen, flushed it all out and put back together. My only guess is a blocked breather sealed the whole system and vapor locked the whole thing. Thats not what stopped it tho! It was actually out of fuel, cos the main tank had caved in the bottom it was holding the float arm up so I thought it still had a quarter of a tank! Anyway she is up and running again, now I'll just have to sort out a better breather system. Time for a rum me thinks!

Have taken it for a drive now, don't know if there is still some air in the system or what's going on. When it's been sitting for more than a few minutes it turns over a few more times than usual b4 it starts and when driving it doesn't feel 100% under the right foot. Thoughts??

Did you pull this apart to clean it out?

If not try cracking the fuel cap open, turn it over or go for a short run to rule out any possible air/vacuum lock

I tried to clean it out, I did get some crap out of it and I could suck on it and get air through it. I have a second tank that piggybacks straight onto the main tank and it has its own breather to. Will have a drive tomoz with the filler off and see what happens.

Is all good now. Must've just still had some air in the system. The whole problem was the blocked breather. I have to say now that ive cleaned the sender I reckon my fuel economy is worse! I might be just imaging things!
