What is the difference between the ECUshop Monster Max and the HKS F Con ID? It appears these two are at the top of the pile these days..

As you say, I don't think you'd lose out with either of them.

After weeks of searching the market for information on chips, modules, remaps and anything else that would bring my MK7 3.0 Invincible Auto to life, I took the plunge yesterday and bought a Steinbauer. It seemed the most intelligent and safest option.

First impression on test run was not the best as I suppose I was expecting to set off like I was running on nitro. After realising I was only going to get up to +25% at the very most I began testing it on my usual runs with a more sensible mind. I noticed less effort was needed to get the same speeds and the K&N filter made less noise, so I would say there is definitely less air being sucked in which would mean less fuel being used, maybe I am wrong.  

The second time I went out I drove without fuel economy in mind. Not being too reckless with fuel consumption, I just gave it a bit more throttle. It seemed faster and smoother and was a more enjoyable drive. I had no trouble racing mopeds anymore, the local Vespa club will be well gutted now I thought.

Anyway I decided to try some overtaking and compare with pre-instalation and guess what? It actually happened, I put my foot down and flew past the traffic at ease, much, much better! I did one overtake on an incline while travelling at about 50mph and it took off like a rocket ship instantly, which took me by surprise! I thought I was going to beat NASA to Mars! The truck did have a bit of pork at the top end anyway, but this was different, engine was sharper and less laboured.

I put the setting on the factory 50%. I'm going to run a full tank on that and a full tank on 100% to see if there is a difference in mpg. And see if there is any difference in power. Anyone know if there is?

Did I make the right choice? I think so. I mean the wife can now stop pushing my truck when going up hills, which has been a problem for me when driving and texting and having to hold my own beer at the same time!  

Just waiting for the traffic to die down and off I go again on my 3rd test run.

Touronaut glad you got some good results and are happy with the outcome

At 100% Id say it will blow smoke mine didn't like it at 100% with a 3in exhaust from turbo back. It smoked like a train, and exhaust temps were very high. I ended up running it at 3/4s and in the top end still smoked once reved out over 3500rpm. I'd recommend a dyno run and set it to the optimum for your engine. Just my opinion cheers bh1

The steinbauer only works when you give it some welie so no surprise there, but I doubt you will get better fuel consumption on 100% because that setting you throw caution to the wind, if that's what you want

A dyno run will find the optimum setting but save your money and leave it at 50% you will find that is probably the best and happy medium settings

Is your white reference wire wired up? the steinbaur instructions say not to connect it but everything Ive read tells you to connect it behind the throttle???

If your module has tune mapping of KF 140821 or higher, the reference wire is not required. The new tune allowed removal of reference wire requirement, and was done to enable the module to work when cruise control is in use. I don't have my reference wire hooked up, and it works fine. The tune mapping revision number is written on the module.

Will be following this as well. I have just ordered one myself. Could not find anyone saying absolutely that the module did any damage. At the current price its not a bad buy I reckon. They have sent me some dyno results when fitted on the new 2.8L showing 18% power increase and 22% torque upgrade.

Have not recieved mine yet but would still be interested to here from people with hands on experience with the module

As long as your clutch is ok at the moment I won’t bother
No real need for egt gauges, having said that they’re not a bad idea if you do a lot of towing
If you are replacing a clutch I’m always a fan of Excedy

I don't do a lot of reviews. Service has to be REALLY good or REALLY bad before I bother with reviews. However, I thought I'll give bit of an update on Steinbauer's/Diesel Care after sales service. I bought a new SB module for my 2016 Hilux about 2 months ago. The last 2-3 weeks I had this feeling as if the power is gone. Thought I just got used to it. One day after driving I looked at the unit to find the green light off. I unplugged the module and plugged it back in. Light went red for half second then solid green. Looking at my dash I got a P0107 fault which I couldn't clear unless the module is plugged in and ON. I called Diesel Care Dalby and explained what happened. 5 minutes after I stopped rambling on and on explaining what happened, the only questions she asked was "What's your address so we can send you a new one".

This was Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon I got a message from AusPost saying I have a parcel on its way. Monday morning it was delivered to my door with another bag already paid for to send the faulty unit back.

Why can't all manufactures have such good service!

Some think there is no relationship between good customer service and profit. Others are wiser.

Well that's how good businesses do business, and that's why people like yourself give them a good wrap. It's a pity all businesses don't work like this, since a happy customer tells lots of others about the experience. On the other hand, ten times the number tell others about a bad experience. If more businesses worked with those ethics, consumer affairs would be much more satisfied and then they could focus on the shonky businesses. And maybe the good businesses would make much more profit and the shonkies would disappear!

Good work for spreading the good message about steinbauer and especially their dealer Diesel Care.
