I'm curious.
Would you care to justify your statement by sharing the thought process as to why a moderator keeping the forum streamlined and easy to find answers on a particular subject necessitates a latent, abusive and witless remark for doing so?

Well put DB !!!!! Somewhat lost, I suspect, but still well put.

I'm keen on the Steinbauer, but with full custom tunes coming onto the scene at roughly the same price I just can't seem to see the value anymore?

Just bought a 2015 SR5, looking at a Steinbauer and 3 inch. I've read about "limp" mode etc, has this been an issue for anyone? I know you lose Toyota warranty if you make engine mods so that is the only thing holding me back.

what type of fuel consumption are people getting with the various chips before and after? Any improvement on daily driving?

I inquired about the steinbauer chip and quoted $1600- fitted approx., that's ok to me but, in the next breathe I was told that I also need to do the exhaust to get the full benefit of the chip at a further $1400- approx. I was also informed that if I do not fit an exhaust system I then need to fit an exhaust gas temp gauge to avoid over heating at $400-. Sounds like it is more economical to fit an exhaust system with the chip at the same time. opinions welcome

The guys from DP chip would love a dealer to put that in writing (adding a chip) as they would love to take the company to court as this is truly not the case. Go to their web site and read for yourself. I am led to believe the same applies to stienbauer but do not know about the other brand of chips. I am in the same boat with warranty, and have been hesitant

Get HKS fitted and tuned for around 2k. Much better gains, driveability, and more.

Steinbauer really has nothing to offer in the value for money stakes anymore

I fitted the Steinbauer without the exhaust upgrade and I had no problems related to the chip and the original exhaust combination. It worked rather well.

When I did fit the 3 inch exhaust, it did make a greater difference, as would be expected. In fact I am now happy driving around with the chip turned off, because the 3 inch exhaust works so well. Now I only flick the switch and turn the Steinbauer on in special circumstances, like overtaking on country roads, or sometimes when towing the camper trailer up hills etc

Hence I would suggest the installation of the 3 inch exhaust first. Then if you are after more performance, add the Steinbauer later.

I found that fitting the Steinbauer and the 3 inch exhaust is not very difficult. So you could save a few hundred dollars if you are happy to do it yourself.

You do realise the chip takes 30 to 40 seconds to boot up and start working. If you flick it on and stomp on the loud pedal straight away your chip isnt doing anything

Hi guys
This thread has me wanting an SB. I would like to fit a steinbauer to my Jan 2006 hilux however the plan is to upgrade to a later model hilux in a year.
Does anyone know if the steinbauer for my Jan 2006 vehicle will be compatible with say a 2012 model hilux ?
Cheers

You won't regret it
Yes there are cheaper options but from what I can gather there aren't many safer

HKS chip is really the go now, Steinbauer is old technology, too expensive etc. Look into it if you're considering steinbauer, just autos would be the man to speak to!
