So how are everyone's Steinbauer chips going? Are they worth it, concerned about damaging motor and long term use of chip on reliability? Many tanks

I know of a few people with stainless steel exhausts that have cracked several times. They say they will never buy a s/s exhaust again.

This is true, hate my stainless exhaust with a passion. Even with a flex price just after the dump pipe it still cracks. Snapped off at the dump pipe once, mounting points have cracked out and brackets fallen off. Next time I might just bend up some mild steel straight out the bonnet

i got a second hand one after i was dudded by chipit and i wish i had of got a steinbauer the first time
i love it. better power delivery, heaps smoother and i seem to be getting 60 to 80km more out of a tank of
fuel.
the only thing is (wich im not too concerned about) is i hooked up a switch to it via the grey wire and from switch to neg on battery and it doesnt seem to disable the switch at all and i have tryed 2 different switches to eliminate a faulty switch.

I had the same issue with hooking ip a switch to on the loop wire and it did not disable it. What I did was put the switch in the neg wire and that seems to work, but the injectors seem to tick a bit when in the off position.

I have the full 3inch Redback mate and it looks tough as. Would take a serious pounding to do any damage.

Hey guys i have a 2010 D4D that just pooped itself and it has a Steinbauer in it already.

Will this be compatible with a 2013 engine?

My other concern is i brought the car from QLD already with the chip and am curious if it needs re-tuning as it is in Tasmania in the cold weather?

Im inclined to sell the chip and get a different chip that can be tuned on a dyno, noone in tas can tune Steinbauer

I had a job in Bathurst this week, so I decided to load up the camper trailer, to test out the Hilux, after I fitted the Auto Transmission cooler. Turned the Steinbauer ON and tackled the Blue Mountains via the Bell's Line of Road. Climbing up to Kurrajong Heights, always caused my transmission to fail under these circumstances with the chip ON. It would refuse to change up gear at the top of the range as described in earlier posts. It would also fail on other hills, when pulling a heavy load. Not this time. I traveled from Sydney to Bathurst and return, with the chip ON, and not one problem. So I would like to thank Rod for his previous suggestion to fit an automatic transmission cooler. I am glad I listened to you. Although I have not yet tested the situation in warmer to hot weather, the problem seems to be solved. Now I can use the Stienbauer again when I need it most. It was obviously an auto transmission heat related issue all along. The extra power from the stienbauer only made it worse but the transmission cooler did the trick. One happy camper. Thanks again......

No problem Kevtek, I'm glad it worked out for you. This is one of the problems with mass produced vehicles, or anything for that matter, they are built to a price that satisfies the bulk of the users. If you need to step outside those parameters some times you need to tune them up a bit. In saying that, towing a camper shouldn't be pushing the boundaries to far, it's a far cry from towing a 22' van.
Cheers Rod

Yep - plenty of vehicles using s/s as OEM, apparently without problems. Maybe the aftermarket suppliers are using a different grade of S/S ? Some grades are lot harder and more brittle than others.

Finally got my exhaust done on my 05 Hilux, I have had the Steinbauer chip alone for around 2 years. The torque peaked out at 624NM which is fantastic. Most of the exhaust gains were at the bottom end which I'm also happy with as it really pulls down low now. I will come back with fuel consumption figures as well, I expect an improvement. If I can work out how to post the dyno report which is a PDF file I will do soon.

Heres a link to the Stienbauer Chip Setting thread which has a continuation of some data I posted earlier in this thread over here.

Its some more fuel and EGT details that some might find useful, the details can be found from HERE

New steinbauer modules

Postby alanj on Thu, 14 Aug 2014 4:25 +0000

Hi i have a 09 single cab d4d 100 k the previous owner put a manta 3 inch exhaust on it with a redback chambered muffler.
I am currently looking at buying a steinbauer power module for towing a boat and was told there was a new module for hilux and prado that prevents over boosting and codes when a 3 inch exhaust is fitted. evidently this different module is not needed when a 2.75 inch exhaust is fitted. Can anyone share their advice on this ?

Would you care to justify your statement by sharing the thought process as to why a moderator keeping the forum streamlined and easy to find answers on a particular subject necessitates a latent, abusive and witless remark for doing so?
