Most likely the dealer will inspect it all for water, and if found, will place the blame solely on the petrol station, with your receipt your insurance company should cover the costs and chase the fuel company for reimbursement.

If it is water i hope his insurance company will cover it, he has a very good 4wd policy so might just be covered.

If it is not water what else could have caused the injector to fail so early given that its an 09 i assume we should not have the same seal problem as the earlier models??

it doesn't have to be water.........the correct term is 'contaminated' (re insurance)........and that could be anything.

Just heard from my dad and he said Toyota have looked at it and think there might be piston damage but wont know until they take the head off... which apparently means the engine is then stuffed, as in cant be repaired once the head is removed!!! :o
Is this true?? :!: sounds nuts to me!!
And its $13k for a new engine... ouch

I just hope for his sake either Toyota MC cover it or his insurance covers it :?

I had issues with my Hilux kun26 making knocking noises on cold mornings. This was when I used to use 10W30 fully synthetic, these days I use 5W40 fully synthetic and the knocking sounds are less noisy, they still occur, but they're not so bad and they go away quicker. When you start the engine on a cold morning, the engine preheater and the thermostat are struggling to get the engine up to operating temperature, but the thicker 10W30 oil doesn't get through the rocker cover and into the values as quickly. The injectors are also running their complex predetonation and post detonation cycles in all irony to keep the engine sounding smooth, but this doesn't agree with the poorly lubricated camshaft. There are also some other theories - using rubber washers on the injectors has caused solid objects to accumulate within the oil, which is blocking the fine mesh structure within the sump, preventing the passage of oil into the cylinders. We now use steel washers on the injectors instead.

Hi Everyone.
I am kinda resurecting this thread cos ive just bought a 2011 Hilux SR5 dual cab, but after id paid for it i heard about issues with the CRD injectors starting to fail after 150-200 k. Mine has done 186 k and i haven't got a service history (yes i know that is risky buying a car without knowing service history).
My question is, were the faulty injectors mainly in the 2005-2008ish year Hilux's and did the problem get somewhat resolved before 2011??

Is it rattly? Go get the feedback values checked, put a secondary filter on it. Every ute is different regardless of the year, yes the latee ones had slightly better ones in them but generally had similar issues. There r 05 rigs running around up north with 300+ on original injectors!
