Priming water filter separator? ** Fixed**

Postby Morksvigo05 on Wed, 25 Jul 2018 4:54 +0000

Hi guy changed my fuel filters today
My question is I tried priming using the primer for ages not much happening I feel pressure but I have an inline ryco water separator /filter before the factory filter
Would I have to fill it with diesel manually or ?
Any help greatly appreciated
It did start no problems but then it ran out of fuel and stopped because the pre filters dry

Hi mate undo the out hose from your fuel filter place a hose on it into a jar and pump the hell out of you pump sounds if you have a air lock keep pumping to you get fuel out.
Have fun

Ok guys I've come across a bit of a problem
Truck drives awesome once going and starts first kick say if I fill up fuel stop n start but when it's been sitting for like half hour it takes a lil bit to start like not by much but noticeable to me
And sometimes idles for ten seconds then stops
After a little bit more cranking turns on and stays on
I took it for a drive today like 100 K didn't miss a beat
Checked all my hoses all tight checked Allround no leaks etc?
Any body experience this
One thing I thought it could be is because I used the primer so much might have worn something in there?
And if it was air wouldn't a hundred K drive would of been passed through ?
Any info much appreciated as always guys

Did you say you have a prefilter? If it has a glass bowl? Is it full? Sounds like you have air in the system somewhere. Take the delivery hose off (the one between the OEM filter and the common rail) put it into a glass jar and pump the primer again to purge any air, probably in the prefilter. After purging reconnect the hose and pump the primer again til it goes hard.

Pity you used that oil pump, if you used it after the OEM filter you may introduce some contamination. Never do this, use the primer on the OEM filter.

Otherwise it may be the oring on the filter leaking ( sucking air)
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Oh no I done this already to prime worked awesome I flushed it plenty of times over with clean diesel just incase even tho I primed it into a jar nothing went in only out into the jar if this makes sense
I think I'm gradually losing rail pressure due to an O ring or something like that
Pain in the ass
But getting to know these diesels like the back of me ol fella lol

This is what it seems to be doing
Cranks over and fires fine idles for like 20 30 seconds
Then stalls
Crank again takes about 4 seconds of cranking then starts and idles fine and doesn't stall again and runs fine?
I know it's something to do with one of the filters
Looks like I might have to do the whole thing again other thing I used a Cooper filter instead of a Toyota one for the factory filter housing and the water separator is a ryco maybe there's an O ring in there that's no good
Not a buggy but a real pain
