So I have been running the new DP Chip-X for the last few weeks in my 2005 Hilux D4D. It has been amazing. The car feels like a new car, a much much faster new car. It no longer just plugs into the front of the engine. It is like the Steinbauer chips and piggybacks onto each injector.
Last weekend driving from Melbourne to Adelaide my car started going into limp mode. After driving for a few hours at 110kms the car was going fine, no issues. That was until I had to slow down to 60 to cross a crossroad. Once I had crossed the road and was accelerating back up to 110, the car went into limp mode with an engine light up. I turned the car off and back on and there was no engine light. It continued to drive all sweet until I needed to slow down and speed up leaving a town and boom, limp mode. It was not happening every time I slowed down, but more like every 4 times (30-60 mins apart).
I disconnected the chip and ran the rest of the trip without it and no more limp mode. 1800kms later when I got back to Melbourne I went to a mechanic that had a M-ODB reader (why can't I just buy one?) I was able to see 2 faults. p0200 injector circuit (fixed) and p1251 stepper motor. Now the injectors are only 2000kms old and I don't have an upgraded exhaust.
I am guessing it may be the chip. I really love this new chip. It is amazing and really don't want to give it up. Has anyone else had these issues? Is there a fix?
The experts tell me it may be my stepper motor failing. The guys from DP have been really good and have offered to ease off the curve on the tuning so the power comes on a little slower. I am just seeing what others have experienced or think.

Yes its the chip... best sell it off to the next unwise sole and accept your hilux for what it is.

They will tell you your stepper motor is on the way out but it probably isnt. The codes were responding to the chip over-fueling and over-boosting.

The years of experience here suggest that if you do away with the chip your problems will be solved.

It seems to be caused by over-boosting. I am fitting a 3" exhaust with decent cats in the next week and this hopefully might help with back pressure. I will also send the chip back and get it tuned down a bit. Have the power come on a little slower. This should hopefully help with the problem.
I put the chip in as the car was so sluggish after going up to 32" tires. I don't race the truck, and the chip is more just to assist it to move especially when trying to merge in traffic. So I don't need it to be super tuned to the limit.
I wanted to swap the ratios in the diffs, but no one in Melbourne seemed to be able to do it or they wanted like $5000 so the chip was an easier option. And I couldn't find a person to do an ECU remap that was known to be good or less than like $2000.

Yeah I know what you are saying running those tyres. I have 33s and just used to it being slow. Regearing is the sensible option for many reasons but yes its very $$$$$$ unless you can do it yourself.

If your vehicle is a 2005 model then it will be the Euro3 version which has slightly stronger pistons than the Euro4 models. Don't let this give you a false sense of security with the chip though - holes in Euro3 pistons still happen and chips play havoc with the 3pin common rail sensor etc etc.

IT IS THE DP CHIP. Get you $1400 back and get a UNICHIP piggy back ECU. Your problems will be gone and say hello to 160-190RWHP on 32' tyres.

^^ yeah there is a good case to get your money back as the dp wasnt performing as specified - especially if they have to detune it to work well.

Get your $$$ back - dp have a long history of poor products. Lots of experience here and across the other forums that talk about the 1KD.
