Driving without fuel cap

Postby cooganstein on Wed, 28 Dec 2016 6:34 +0000

Will it be safe/ok to drive around without a fuel cap temporarily? Swapped the tub for a tray on Chrissy eve and the first time I've taken anywhere the fuel cap got flogged within 10 mins of leaving it unattended while I went into repco. So f Ing annoyed when I noticed this arvo.
It's a 07 diesel dual cab.
Another thing I don't know is why anyone would need one because I thought all cars came with one to begin with.

Yeah it's fine. Jam a rag or similar to prevent ingress of dirt. $40 for a genuine cap

Ok thanks mate.
That's cheaper than expected for genuine.
Still a carton though.

Check your fuel filter for water... Notorious tank pissers if no cap... Get a locking one!
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

If he is still using the tub filler tube and then I don't believe you can get locking? Yeah I have lost 2 fuel caps now with leaving them in the tray. Also just go to servo's they should have a bucket of fuel caps

The thought did cross my mind whether something got put in. I drove approx 10k home but, good idea I'll be checking that filter/separator.
