Fuel Filter, tiny bits of Metal in filter bowl?

Postby Torsion on Mon, 19 Oct 2015 5:03 +0000

Ok, when I replace my Fuel Filter I remove the complete filter housing from the car and wipe out all residue and shit inside the bowl before I replace a new Filter.
Over the past year, each time I service, I have noticed more and more tiny (I mean tiny) bits of what looks like metal sitting in the bottom of the bowl.
The Long Ranger tank has been in the car since new (2008), wondering if shes time to remove the tank and give her a good flush?

Anyone else experienced this?

Probably mate, I had an old long ranger in my old hilux which actually rusted internally. If you can, give it a flush, you'd be doing yourself a favour I think.

Think the general consensus is the metal is coming from fuel bowers

I'd bet it is from the bowser/tanks at the supplier... metal in fuel filter is not likely unless your supply pump is on the way out (which I doubt). Diesel fuel often has contamination right from the bowser/delivery tanker. Unless of course if you are transferring fuel from your own jerry cans?? Never fill up if there is a tanker at the servo... guarantees to stir up all the shite in their tanks. :o even after an hour or so the shite stays in suspension.

that is of course what your filter is for... suggest fitting a pre-filter with a clear bowl you can see the fuel.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

They don't all have it, but many do. Yes looks like brass glitter.
So it's not uncommon.
