Autoxtras long range fuel tank

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with the autox long range polymer tank? Done some searching on the net and have come up empty. I'm tempted to go with one instead of a long range automotive or other options due to weight saving and I think the polymer may be pretty tough.

Any thoughts?

Regards,
Jackson.

I have heard they are relatively similar to steel, but I don't know if thats the truth, even if it was, I wouldn't mind paying as much as steel. The polymer certainly has it's advantages, but I am a little concerned about the lack of baffling in the tank....

I've heard some bad stories about corrosion in metal tanks so a poly tank is interesting. A 25kg weight saving is also pretty compelling.

Of course I tend not to drive over hammering sledgies. MIL-STD-810 is just environmental tests that can be tailored to specific operational environments & areas (ie. Iraq, the Arctic, Equatorial west Africa) & certain battlefield conditions/events, not durability.

Need to see it get dragged full of fuel, with the weight of a vehicle on it, across a rock.

Just had a quick look :? Not convinced at all ill need to see alot more then just what they said... :| where is it made? Just the 2 straps for mounting? How thick? Etc....
Keep in mind 145l will protrude past the main rail beam about 50-80mm from what i recall so it will increase its chances of being in the firing line.

I have a 140 long ranger which im comparing to....

I had to change out the Opposite Lock long range tank I fitted to my Nissan Navara due to corrosion. I replaced it with a LRA aluminised steel tank but would've probably gone for a poly one if they were available.
One thing to keep in mind......if you are changing tanks make sure you get one that has a drain plug in it. Pain in the arse draining a water contaminated tank through the filler cap I tell you.

Correct me if I'm wrong does this tank have a drain plug
Check out a poly tank at the 4x4 show didn't take much notice of the brand as had a quick glance
But did notice no drain

The tanks are around $1100 as i spoke to the rep. I was going to get one but apparently they sit higher than the standard tank and I have a tray with a slide out drawer which only sits about 10mm off the standard tank. Guess I will have to go steel unfortunately I liked how the tank was only 17kgs.
