Injectors been changed? Can I tell?

Postby Ryan1kd on Sun, 12 Jul 2015 7:44 +0000

Hey guys,

Just purchased a pre August 06 (euro3) hilux. With 250k km. Without any detailed history on the vehicle, is there any way i can tell if my injectors have been changed from the factory? Characteristics, markings??

Thanks in advance, I tried to sift through the search option but couldn't find anything substantial.

Thanks

If the change was done with new replacement injectors (euro 3) then you could never be 100% sure assuming the job was done properly.

If they are rebuilt injectors (ie Baileys) the compensation code on top of each injector would be scrubbed out in black marker, although this wasn't normal practice when they first started to release rebuilt injectors.

Thanks mate, it runs fine, maybe a little underpowered but I think that's normal. Just wondering whether it's worth changing them for safety sake.

Getting a cold-start test done on them, and checking the oil pickup screen when servicing, is what you want done.

But at those kilometers you'd be getting to the upper end of life you could expect from a set of injectors

Yep all things I will check. I'm a diesel mechanic and I'm very impressed as to how clean the engine oil is and the general smell of it. 99% of all diesels I've worked on have had black oil within 100km of driving after a service. And that destinct smell. It also runs and idles quite smooth for its age.

Ryan, have you got a diagnostic tool, or can you get your hands on one, G Scan, Solus or one of those units?
If you can, I will run you through the important readings for the injectors.
Just PM me if you can.
The great thing about the model you have got, is there is no EGR cooler. They are easier to work on then the later models. Coming down from the big stuff to the small stuff is a bit different, and can be a bit frustrating at first.
The Roo.
Passing through country and seeing country are two different things.
