Fuel range dropped after exhaust install

Postby Hostile1 on Sat, 18 Oct 2014 9:58 +0000

I just installed a 3" exhaust into my 2013 SR5 and since then the fuel range has dropped.
Is this common? I would have thought the fuel range got better.
Is the truck in need of a "flash tune"? Or something else?
Please help.
My apologies if this has been covered.

Yeah has been covered. Probably/Maybe in 3" exhaust thread.
Assuming no probs with the aftermarket exhaust, it has to do with rev range mostly used, exhaust escape velocity, exhaust diameter and backpressure misconceptions.

Edit - a couple of search hits:

That search button works well hey? .... ;)

Do you drive it the same way. Usually the deeper sound and more power means your right foot becomes abit heavier, thus chewing more juice. Fun but costly.

it has been proven on a dyno that a 3" = less power and torque

ie. dont put a 3" on your truck

sorry, no link.
I generally recommend that people just replace the stock muffler with a straight pipe if they want more sound / free revving

a 3" with cat and muffler is fine if tuned. but the only way to tune is using a chip such as ECUshop or HKS

Read what you put and have a good think about it.

If they didn't say that they wouldn't sell many would they.

Your quote at the end of your posts is true about the truly strong people, but you left half of it out, the bit that says they are usually deadshit arseholes that are not worth talking to lol.

I have removed the feed in the catalyst, it gave less consumption and more torque earlier in the registry (mine is a 2011 sr)

Anyone here who use chip from TTE? combined with 3 "exhaust?

Bigger exhaust improves top end performance and higher peak power. But it makes low end performance worse and fuel consumption worse. If you want to save fuel leave the stock exhaust. Taking out barriers will help improve fuel consumption ie mufflers, high flow cats etc but increasing size makes fuel consumption worse.

"Bigger is better" is a misconception. Bigger has certain advantages and certain disadvantages and the manufacturer chooses a size that gives good fuel economy and a good compromise between high end performance and low end performance. If bigger was universally better the vehicle would already have it out the factory.

If everyone who sells them sells falsly then its a major fight. Not saying that every one is the best bit when paired with the right tuning and stuff they would not decrease as long as everything else.

and besides i was only asking for the figurs to proove it.

i lost fuel consumption with a 3inch and high flow cat and muffler. but gained a bit when i put a snorkel on ;), snorkel and exhaust together brought me back up again.. go figure didnt expect it at all but its a significant difference for sure

Hi
I have now
chip TTE
snorkel TJ
Efforts Filter type Koni
Removed tripe in catalyst

mit consumption with 38 "tires, situated on 1.1 liters per mil. which is not wrong with di showered. I assess and build new 3" from trubo and rear, with a catalyst behind (vehicle must be resistance behind) It is both backpressure and heat exhaust.

Do you use Toyota's TTE / Jsport chip in a car or other boxes?

TTE change reailers pressure amount of air and turbo pressure. it said and that it goes on autmat checkout but it knows I not sure.

TTE chip Toyota sold Norway before and gave 100% guarantee on motror and drive on this chip. it provides in excess of 200 hp on a 3.0 hilux tested by Toyota Motorsports.

I've just a HPX 3" on mine noticed a hell of a lot more torque down low, fuel consumption is sitting at 11.4L/100km on Mickey ATZ P3 265/65R17
