Different Fuel Filter for D4D variants?

Postby ira11y on Wed, 06 Aug 2014 2:51 +0000

I was talking to a mechanic today about the fuel filters in the Hilux, he indicated that hes was stumped as to why the Prado/ Land Cruiser filter was bigger than the Hilux and why Toyota wouldnt use the same for all the D4D engines.

This was news to me, I thought the Prado had the same fuel filter and primer, perhaps he was referring to the Landcruiser V8? maybe then I could see there being a bigger filter.

Can anyone confirm the different size fuel filters for the Prado on the same spec D4D or has the mechanic got a bit confused?
Cheers
Michael

From memory the prado uses a metal spin on filter rather then the cartridge type.

The Prados and Hiaces also dont seem to suffer anywhere near the amount of injector problems.

Yep prados have a spin on set up same as a pre 07 landcruiser but uses a different element, I would think that the prado uses a finer micron filter but boxhead may know more on the details

Same micron filter but different tank set ups.
Also prado has a jet pump filter that runs almost all the time. And gets replace every 20 000 km. Which helps a lot.
As for Hi ace. Again different fuel tank set up and they do have quite a lot of injector issues from bad fuel and water as well.

The fuel filter for the 2.2 rav 4 diesel is a baby and only has a water warning. It does not have a blockage warning system on it. But same micron filter.
