Fuel filter warning light. What do I do?

Postby Moiv on Fri, 21 Mar 2014 6:21 +0000

Hi guys.
Just copped a fuel filter warning light on the way to work.
My question is, does this warning light only come on for water in the fuel or does it also come on for excessive section / blocked filter element?
I had my foot flat to the floor in 2nd giving the hilux a cleanout as I do once or twice a week when this happened, which is why I ask about the blocked filter element situation. It's probaby never been changed.

As I am an hour away from home, is it safe to undo the filter drain & drain a little in case there's some water and then drive home?
I do have a spare filter element but I'd much rather change it at home than on the side of the road at work.

Cheers guys

It should be safe to drain a little out of the bottom of the filter and drive home.

If the warning light remains on when you replace the filter:

1) remove the wiring (unclick) from the top of the filter
2) start the vehicle
3) replace the wiring

Within 3 seconds, the light should go out :)

I wouldnt worry too much if its a solid light, ive seen some of our work utes drive around for a week before changing the filter and there still going
The funniest part about you reading my signature is that by the time you read the whole thing from start to finish you only then realise there is nothing interesting in it.
