What we found is that the 30 works best with the original filter and blockage sensor. If you fit a 5 you will have better filtration but you may have some false blockage lights come on as the supply pump can sometimes requires a massive amount of fuel, an with the extra drag of the new filtration sometimes brings the light on.

you're both right.

some facts:
that the standard filter is 8-10 microns.
Clearances within the injector range from 0.75 OF A MICRON to 2 microns
Water will damage more than particles...

We believe and fit secondary systems based on particle size, that have a water trap.

Trick with all of this is that you can sometimes get that suction light (and we've also found the 'light load rattle' get worse when theres higher restriction - just an observation) which should be avoided.

hope this helps

Just fit a 2nd water trap (no filter) before the factory filter. Water is what causes the majority of problems with our engines and there won't be any restriction problems.

I saw few hilux before fitted with pre filters, local made..had problem with flow so they add an external diesel pump to boost flow.

30micron prefilter with highflow capabilities and a good water trapping system with an ALARM.

Racor445r30 is the go in my opinion and is what I have.

??, I was hoping to see flat out one sided opinion. Looks like there is positives on both sides.
Dont like the thought of suction probs with the 5 micron secondary.

The fuel Managers do have Water trap under them and the option for water alarm......

I have a FM100 5 micron secondary filter, 3" exhaust no muffler, chip it dominator 3, k&n filter, blocked EGR and a catch can.

Absolutely no fuel starvation problems.

it's probably covered in the other thread, but warranty can be an issue with a secondary filter

Racor 445 with either a 30 or 10 micron filter - job done... No loss in suction (.1 psi) will detect a stupidly small amount of water in the diesel and has the option of a vacuum gauge to determine when to change the filter, game over.

I have read countless threads on the net about the problems created by using a 2 micron filter as a secondary filter and even 5 microns creating problems with fuel starvation in some cases..

Each to their own, but with 1/4" line fittings in and out mate that units not really up to the job if you ask me, they need to be atleast the same size as the fuel line coming in to match without using reducers (3/8")- and the flow rate isnt that great at 114litres per hour compared to 170 for the 445 unit

Good point to consider.

As for stuff from ebay selling cheap Racor -beware of china imitation. I rather get them from a authorized supplier/dist.

Not necessarily the only or the cheapest option but good service.
