Injectors

Postby iancraw on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 2:04 +0000

Hi,
First crack at this so here goes,,,After reading all the threads on injectors it appears it's my turn to suffer at the hands of the Toyota service center for an expensive injector change.
I have a July '06 Twin Cab 1KD-FTV with 370k (all good Kms)on the clock and got a bad tank of fuel which has caused an injector problem.
My dilemna is what injector to fit. The OEM part 23670-09070 has aparently been superceded by 23670-39316, which in turn has been superceded by 23670-09330 (phew!!!)
A ridiculous quote fro Toyota in central Victoria identified that they were offering a 'fully reconditioned' genuine Toyota (Denso) injector set ,to keep the cost to me down as best they could (aren't they kind?), but couldn't or wouldn't divulge the part number,,,,the smelly rat gets closer,,,Has any one heard of a re-buildable Denso injector for a 1 KD FTV??
I have sourced a supplier at a better price than I can find any where in Oz but need to lock in on the correct part No.. My inclination is to go for the Toyota recommendation 23670-09330.
Can someonse assist me here please. Also where can I get an ECU scanner/programmer or whatever they are called, or at the minimum advise of a service centre @ Kilmore Vic that can do the recalibrating of the ECU,,,,anyone but Toyota is preferred,,
Thanks in advance

Give Chris Rogers a call from Cornell fuel injection & turbo service Sunshine West 03 93121288, he might be able to help with some info.

D4D injectors are not rebuildable or able to be refurnished as far as i know.

I would check whether that model has an ecu that will accept and code the latest DLC injectors and go find the best price for that type, part number is on the site elsewhere...

Mate I'm pretty sure August 06 was the point where they changed to a reflashable ECU and different injectors, so I think you are limited to the "old" style and part number.
When I replaced my injectors last year I spoke to Denso Australia about it, and was told that they were working on getting change-over injectors on the market, but in the mean time they were supplying brand new ones as change-overs so that they could get the old ones back to build up a bank of old injectors to rebuild. At any rate you still have to get them through a Denso agent or Toyota.

I noticed on another thread today someone has found some injector nozzles on ebay to suit the D4D, but there's more to these injectors than just nozzles. With old school injectors yes, not much else to rebuilding an injector than new nozzles, but these things have an electric solenoid on top and that is what Denso were having trouble with trying to replace.

My best advice is to deal only with an Authorised Denso agent, they know their stuff unlike many Toyota parts interpreters and service departments. Not all Denso agents are authorised to deal with common rail, only some. Westend Diesel in Sydney are excellent for info over the phone even if you don't live in Sydney.
Regards Chris.

Hey Chris, Thanks for that.
I think you have hit the nail on the head,,it's right at that cusp,,,I'll give Westend a bell tomorrow,and/or Denso Aust. The supplier I have been in contact with has all the different part no'd items,,,check out http://www.cxautoparts.com,,, excellent prices,,, like half of Oz based stores/centres,

injectors can be overhauled but there is only one place in oz that does it and im pretty sure its Cornells which are under strict guidelines from Denso so whatever reco ones that come out of there are just like new. You can tell a proper reco injector as it will have a new compensation code stuck over the old one. The best option i think is to find your nearest denso dealer and get the correct ones from there, they will come with a warranty and are cheaper then a dealer. As for a scan tool all u can do is ask around your local mechanics to see if they will have something to do the job or your Denso agent which is usally a diesel specialist as well they might have the scan tool.

Cornells definately can rebuild/refurbish the injectors for a d4d hilux. Had a bad batch of fuel myself & ended up costing over $8000 for everything replaced at Cornells, Injectors pump lines etc etc etc. Very expensive. The Navara & Discovery etc with the latest high pressure injection have huge problems with even the smallest amount of water in the fuel. Cornells are pretty much the diesel gurus in Australia from what i have heard.

Back again with an update.
Although my injectors have been damaged by the contaminated fuel and will require replacing, I am still mobile thanks to a 'common rail' fuel treatment carried out bu my local diesel dude in Kilmore.
I reckon I'm at @ 95% performance, which is handy for an old girl with 370k on the dial.
The treatment involves a direct connection to the common rail and a 'treatment solution' is run through the fuel system. It costs @$300 which is less than the price of one injector.Contact Phil at Kilmore Truck and 4x4 before you go and spend $4k plus on injectors.
I was back on the road again this morning and heading back to Wangaratta for work,,,not one gear change kick back,,just powered up them hills all the way,,even the long Glenrowan Hill was no problem.

I just paid $2800 delivered for a set of 4 brand new injectors and a brand new injector pump from Star City Spares in Sydney.

They are the codeable type for our August 06 model.

They seemed to know what they were talking about, and chose the part number from the VIN # of my vehicle, and then confirmed it was a water cooled EGR model by getting us to text a photo of the motor.

One of our employess is an ex Toyota mechanic who then went on to maintain a large fleet of hire Hilux's, and says he has done it numerous times, so we're letting him do it.

I've got it booked into Toyota for coding the following day.

Hopefully the motors not rooted as we had to drive it a couple of hundred kays back into town after it crapped itself and it did blow a lot of black smoke and couldn't run 5th gear.

We're doing it Monday/Tuesday, I'll let you know how it goes.

It all worked out well enough.

Fitted it all up in a day and it started straight up (after we tightened the line we accidentally left loose).

Wrote down the codes and dropped it into Toyota.

Running sweet as now and is back at work.

Took my 2010 Hilux in for a service today to be told the injectors, pipes and gasket are all cooked. Toyota wants to charge $1,000 per injector, plus all the rest. I've got my mechanic looking for better prices everywhere and anywhere, but it's looking to cost me a few dimes.

I'm in Freo, WA. My girl only has 90,000 on the clock. I suspect when I chipped her it stuffed the ECU and injectors around significantly. I had it removed within a week of getting it as it caused all sorts of problems, but I believe the damage had already been done.

Any advice on this please?

Use the search function mate, or better yet, give Baileys Diesel a call - youll be looking at about 1/4 of the price Toyota quoted you

370k. Nice going. Not many here will believe you though, they think injectors should be replaced every 100k km!

I picked up genuine Densos for $430 a piece. The same as the OEM unit Toyota sells.
My lux is going in for injector seat recall next Wedneday as it had not been done before I got the car and they are leaking. During the recall work, Toyota are going to put in the injectors I supply.
I did my research on the Baileys units and decided to stick with OEM units.
