UTE IS TOUGH BUT BREAKABLE ARTICLE

StevenS wrote:Right well I called Toyota back and spoke to Megan, one of the customer service people (the same who I spoke to last Friday).

Basically she says that Toyota is still investigation the issue, doesn't believe it is a problem here in Australia, and that if I have any concerns I should get my dealer to do a checkup (at my cost).

I would suggest anyone contacting Toyota ask to speak to this Megan girl, as she's aware of the issue and someone needs to light a fair under their collective arses to get a proper response from Toyota, as the usual reaction to this sort of negative publicity is to stay quiet and hope everyone forgets about it within a few weeks (which very often happens)

Can I have the number you called up on?

I rang toyota today and they said they're are eager to
Hear from ALL Hilux owners that have experienced any
Issues or are erperiancing any issues.
Otherwise there will be no chance of a recal.
She also said to ask that your concerns get pushed
Up higher.
So in short I guess if we want Toyota to act
Then everyone needs to call them, otherwise
We will be forgotten.

Thats great news Sam. Its not that hard to do and is a great piece of mind considering the mega cost if it is allowed to go terminal from a leaker!

I hope a few more guys do this simple check & report their findings + or-.

Now you can go nuts in the bush with a bit more confidence.

Thanks for your postings GFrog

Just dropped the oil in my 12/06 115000km ute. Screen seemed clear from what I could see. Last time I dropped the oil there may have been some lumpy bits, so next time I will use a sieve. Suggest you buy a cheap sieve and check at the same time.

UTE IS TOUGH BUT BREAKABLE ARTICLE

Postby noodle on Fri, 18 May 2012 5:46 +0000

Would there be any value in getting the oil sample tested next time it's dropped? If there is any "extra" carbon finding its way into the sump, this should pick it up yes?

Good on you Mack, Glad you also are looking presently clear, although the lumps you found don't sound good, the question is how many lumps are still sitting in the sump and are you slowly getting more lumps.

Check injector seals to control lumps, If your screen is clear, probably not enough lumps in their yet to kill your engine yet.

Its a good thing you are monitoring it.

Indeed! I had a young bloke at the pub the other night point at my Mopar shirt and ask "what's that?"
My old FJ55 Cruiser had a "warm" 265 in her.......
Back on topic, where is the pick up screen in relation to the sump plug, or does the sump need to come off?
The reason I ask is if it's easily inspected with a bore scope, I might be able to borrow a fancy one that takes a Micro SD card and record some pics. I Only changed the oil two weeks ago but it's going in for a major service at my father inlaw's workshop to change all the driveline fluids, check valve clearances, EGR cleanout and so on. I'd be willing to dump the oil again in the name of research.
