Sub tanks or Replacement?

Hey Steve do you think I could get a picture of this setup? The bolt idea I mean? Whats its id of the hole going through it? Also what size fuel line is used to run between them.

Do you fill the main tank and then when that's close to full the sub tank fills as the inlet is higher than the sub tank? Or other way around? Or fill separately?

Thanks

I only really need 40 or 50 extra liters and that will only be used on big camping trips. I got quoted $2K for the OL aux tank and the dealer said he had to install a pump and a gauge. i like the idea of a aux tank because i have a SR5 too but $2k is a bloody lot of diesel.

WTF $2000?!?

I got a long range tank fitted for only $1200 (ARB). Alternatively, buy a poly aux tank and fit yourself

Sub tanks or Replacement?

Postby Earl-mi on Mon, 02 Jul 2012 10:28 +0000

I am thinking about one of those 70 or 80 liter poly tanks. And plumb that into my main tank with either a 12v diesel solenoid to connect the two of them from inside the cab. Or a basic tap and let gravity drain into my main tank. Tank about $250 and filler hose. $39. So hoping to get out of it for $350.

Thanks Mitch

I have the 140L tank from ARB on a 1012 SR5. Its great but dose any one know if there is any one that can corect the "range left" on the dash? Is there any one that can reprogram it to suit the new tank. The system is very generous and when full it tells me I have just over 500km range. I have recorded all of my fuel usage from new and have 2 trips that are over 1000 km's between refueling. Would be nice to have this a bit closer.

At the other end I have so far refueld when the dash is telling me I have a range left of 18 to 21 km's. This turns out to be around 115 liters. Has anyone pushed this to see how far they can take it? Dose it go to 0?

You cannot re program the standard computer but they are very inaccurate anyway. Best bet is to buy a scan gauge. Very informative and you can program to to suit your tank size, engine type/size and many other things to. Extremely helpful and worth the money ten fold I think

Sorry, missed this thread..
ill have to get some pics for you.. but no.. i just fill from the normal inlet.. go to OL website and have a look at the Hilux sub tanks.. there are pics there of all the parts you get .. there is a big Y piece which splits the fillers between the two tanks so both fill simultaneously. then it gravity feeds from the aux into the main tank..

Yeah I know I think they stuffed up. I want to keep the range and L/100 on my trip computer working properly. I'm looking into the poly tanks to fit above the rear axle but I won't been doing anything until after the trip in a month.

Has anyone had any experience with this tank? I like the weight, installation to existing points and capacity when compared to other options.
