there is a hollow bolt that is fed into the main tank and through a hole that you drill in the main tank. the rubber hose is simply connected to the long side of the bolt..

Has any body with opposite lock sub tank had issues with fuel leaks around the fitting into the original plastic tank ?

nope.. not at all.. I fitted two of these OL Sub Tanks and havent had any leaks on either..

that fitting into the plastic tank is the hollow bolt... there is a big red washer on the inside of the tank and then metal washers on the outside etc to pull it tight.. i used plumbers teflon tape as well then held the very end of the bolt with multigrips while doing up the bolt on the outside so it wouldnt spin.. definately no leaks..

No Leaks in mine either....
had a few dramas when the tank was first installed but all good now.
I couldn't be happier with the end result.

Hi all,
As Surfseeker mentioned. I'd like a tank that has an electric pump so you can manually control when the fuel is transferred. (flick a swith)
Does anyone know of such a system?
I have a 2009 SR5 and also quite like the trip computer. But I suppose beggers can't be choosers.

The earlier model worked like this but remember Gravity is more reliable than Electricity!

Our model does not require the pump as gravity can do it for free!

the sub tank looks fairly easy to install ,just concerned about the bolt fitting into the original tank how hard was this to fit ,and does the original tank have to be removed?

Hi All,

Are the OL tanks ADR approved? Have you guys who have fitted the tank yourselves then had the tank ADR approved? Do OL get the ADR approval if they fit it? I believe that ARB get the ADR approval when they fit their tank.

Do you guys see any issues with ADR or insurance if you fabricate and install your own tank. I have an 06 diesel dual cab with an aluminium tray and there is a ton of room under there to put a tank. I have already fabricated and installed a 60l non-potable water tank (for washing the kids off after a day at the beach) and plan to put a 40l potable (drinking water) tank under there as well. I reckon I would also have room for about 70l of diesel in a tank which would be towards the front of the tray.

Appreciate any feedback.

Not really answering your question but If it is a auxiliary storage tank not sure if it needs approval?????
After all it is just a permanent Jerry can mounted to top up the maintank
There are a couple of different poly tanks available they may suit your needs

Not answering that last question either but..

In relation to Buds Sliders, if you are thinking of getting any sliders and a long range fuel tank -

Step one, get and install sliders
Step two, get the long range fuel tank

I have a long ranger tank from ARB - Just the one tank 140 or 150L, Its awesome, recommend it, and to fit my sliders from Monster Rides i had to drop the whole tank which was a lot of messing around

The reason is there is a very slight gap, where talking 20 - 30mm between the chassis rail and the tank
So you cant get the bolts in for the back slider bracket with a tank in there.

Pretty obvious, but i didn't think about this when i ordered my sliders

If your auxiliary tank is connected to your main tank it will not pass road worthy as it must be blueplated as it becomes part of the vechile. If it is not connected to the main tank and the tank meets australian standards it becomes a fuel storage container and no road worthy is needed. In my case I have got a tap from my auxiliary to my main tank with a filter if I ever sell it I just gotto turn the tap off and disconnect fuel hose to main tank and it will pass road worthy.
Just my 2 cent as I have been throught all this when I fitted my tank.

sure mate - i'll pull it over the pit in the morning and take some photos
would do it now but cant really be fkd

i was actually going to take photos of putting the sliders on, but there was too much was going on.

it will probably be hard to see but i'll do my best and get them up tomorrow

I think I will just make a tank and have it so I can readily disconnect it if necessary. Did you make your own tank? If not which tank did you use to ensure it passed Australian Standards?

Its a slim line poly tank its been ok so far. All mounting brackets are included with the tank few little signs of bulging but not too bad for the price I paid for it.

I wanted a steel one but the 2 places a asked for a quote would not make any fuel carring tanks due to insurance and litigation purposes as they werent licenced to stamp them. My preference would be steel and stamped with at least 2 baffles too help prevent bulging.

Maybe fit a valve instead of a pump? I reckon I will go down this path when fitting the OL sub tankā€¦

Does anyone here have a 70lt tank above their spare 33' wheel??
I know that some have the tank above factory size wheels and it nags 60mm lower, but my concern how low my spare 33' will sit considering its bigger in more ways than??

ive got mine above.. its not the diameter of the wheel but the width..

so long as you can fit hte 33" under (and that depends on what sort of tow bar / rear bar you have), then it'll be fine.. for offroad use i put my spare in the tub anyway.. last thing i want is to stake a tire, or have to get it out when in a precarious position..
