Anyone looking for a chip would be crazy not to go with ChipIt, the amount of after sales service you see them giving in this thread should be enough to rest people assured they're buying from a reputable company.

Hows the chipit going for you now Jono? I have the same engine and want to hear the outcome with your little issue there.

Robert - You may have an order from Jamaica in the near future. Cheers on all the customer service ive seen in the forums!

yes some Chips may need to have a more bolstered tune but we cannot send them out in the first place like this since for the "normal" engine it would be to much.

I haven't seen many that need a higher spec tune but if needed, that's what we can do.

G'day guys, having a bit of an issue with the lux going into limp mode. It's been getting progressively worse for the past few days and it happened to me at pretty much every set of lights on the way home from work today. It seems to only happen when I'm idling at the lights for longer than around 15 seconds. Scangauge shows a P0093. I spoke to the chaps at Chip-It this arvo and he recommended that I earth the module directly to the battery because apparently there can be as much as 60 ohms of resistance through the body and toyota in general have very finicky electronics.
I've tried dropping the tune down. It was set on 8 for about a month (since purchase) with no dramas, dropped it down to 7 to see fuel consumption differences and no dramas until a couple of days ago. I dropped it down to 6 the first time it went into limp mode, but it's been consistently getting more frequent. Tried plugging in the loop back plug in lieu of the chip and all seems fine (although it was a fairly short drive). Also, the EGR is blanked.
Anyone from chip-it (or anyone else that's had a similar issue) care to make any suggestions as to what I should try next? I've got a 500km drive tomorrow early arvo and would really like to get it sorted before that.

Thanks in advance guys,
Mik

Hi Mik

Re: Earth placement: If a good Earth is not supplied to the Harness Earth lead it generally causes a LOW FUEL RAIL PRESSURE code (NOT FUEL LEAK code).

Tune 7 is never an issue and generally up to Tune 9 is issue free without the potential for activating the Fuel Pressure Relief Valve in the back of the fuel rail (which when it does activate throws 2 codes, FUEL PRESSURE HIGH / FUEL PRESSURE LOW codes at the same time because the factory ECU has determined fuel pressure was high due to the activation of the Fuel Pressure relief, then as fuel pressure goes low due to fuel being discharged from the fuel rail the factory ECU throws the 2nd code as a result FUEL PRESSURE LOW.

FUEL LEAK CODE is due to a sudden millivolt reading drop from the rail sensor signals to the factory ECU without activation of the electronic fuel pressure relief valve. Most common reason for this is poor or dodgy connection at the Fuel Rail Sensor caused through either incorrect fitting or bad pin connection due to pin tension or pin pushing backward out of plug ie possible faulty harness or the harness not being tied down properly and being heated / melted on the EGR Pipe which sits just above the Rail sensor.

Advise would be to make sure the plug cannot be easily pulled off the fuel rail once installed and to assist with ease of fitting remove weather seal from inside the plug and try for a few weeks. Then, if so desired trim thickness of seal and re-install and connect back to fuel rail. This allows the plug to sit further into the sensor and make surer connection.

Any hard to start issue can also be a result of poor connection to fuel rail , and also incorrect placement of Earth Strap.

Hope this helps

Thanks a bunch for the quick reply Robert,

I've got no other problems with limp mode/codes apart from when idling at the lights.
I'll have a closer look at all the connections at lunch and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,

Mik

No worries. If you suspect the harness, call the 1800 number and get them to send you out a new one.

Let me know how you get on.

G'day Robert,

Quick question....I have a chip installed in my truck, roughly 2 years old (maybe little less) and Its starting to throw engine codes every few days now. Its the same code Large High Pressure fuel leak. Cant remember the damn P code right now.
One of the boys just recently said that it might the chip causing the issue as I have the style that is powered dierctly from the battery? Is this correct?

Any help would be great, thanks mate.

Monaz, this is why you buy local, not over seas.

Send it back and tell them what is going wrong. They will send u a new one.

You NEED a copy of your invoice and make sure u advise of CURRENT address. Dont want the bloody thing going to some lucky blighter living in your old house if you moved ;)

Another fantastic example of service Robert, you hit the nail on the head. Turns out the little latch on the plug that plugs into the chip had broken, and the plug was a little sloppy. A couple of zip ties, and no further problems!
Spectacular work Rob, thanks a million!
