Just had mine in for its 100,000km service and got them to do the fuel filter at the same time. To the best of my knowledge it's the original filter (I'm the vehicles second owner), I opened it up and have the pics below- pretty dirty. From now on ill be changing the fuel filter every 10,000km.

I use a wynns cleaner.. We used to use it on Audi's with common rail and it worked perfectly, there was never any gunk in there tanks, and it did no damage to there fuel system so I figured running it in mine wouldn't be any problem.

Every 10k, along with the air and oil filter.

I get all 3 for 100 bucks trade, and have no qualms about spending that compared to the 8k I spent getting the common rail fuel system replaced.

There is no saving in skimping on filters/maintenance.

You might get away with it but if you don't...it will cost much much more.

The light came on when we were out shooting on the weekend, we replaced the filter but don't know how to reset the light.

Thanks

The fuel warning light will reset itself (if you mean the flashing one?).. when the problem is fixed.. if its still flashing its because the float in the canister is jammed up, still full of water, or the wiring is damaged.

personally, every 10k i change my two fuel filters..

After Requesting that my fuel filter be replaced at the 60,000km service today, they didn't do it! Said they inspected the filter and its ok! How they inspected it without taking it off or disconnecting any fuel lines I'm waiting to hear.

Also managed to drop some leaves into the aircon fan when changing the pollen filter, apparently checked it ( not likely) and decided that the racket it was making was Ok! Needless to say pissed off!

Now need to take it back next week and get them to sort it out.

Its reckoned Toyota don`t recommend changing the filter at every service because of the possible damage done to the fuel system by dirt contamination from disturbing the filter, so unless the light comes on indicating it needs changing leave it alone. ;)
